@PamBalamm @Albany__Rose Expectant mothers need emotional support, not angry rhetoric. Bearing children is hard and can be scary. So they need to hear, from friends and family and strangers, messages of hope. The pro life message shares hope.

I was a teenager in the 90's. You know all those chastity lessons people complain about now? I had them too. And I'm so grateful. I learned that sex is sacred and that my body is a temple. I learned to respect myself and others, in my dress and behavior. I learned the importance of staying morally clean and avoiding the pain of sin. | learned that I'm God's precious daughter with a divine nature and eternal destiny. | learned that the atonement of Jesus Christ removes the spiritual consequences of sin, but the temporal consequences cannot always be undone. Vilifying purity culture didn't make people sin less, it made people more comfortable with sin. There is an enemy, but it's not the one encouraging you to be chaste.

"Look at your temple recommend. That small card in your wallet or on your phone. Those are the credentials of a citizen of the kingdom, signed by men who hold keys that trace back through unbroken hands to the resurrected Christ Himself. That card does not give you access to a building. It gives you access to the literal presence of the divine, in rooms designed for that purpose, where the veil between worlds is thinner than anywhere else on earth. That is not a metaphor. That is the doctrine, plainly stated, by every prophet from Joseph forward. The temple is not a symbol of the heavenly. The temple is the heavenly, breaking into the earthly, in a space consecrated for the encounter. The Saints who built Kirtland saw angels there. The Saints who built Nauvoo received the endowment there before being driven west. The Saints who built the Salt Lake Temple sacrificed forty years and unimaginable resources because they understood that a stake in Zion without a temple was a stake without its purpose. And you carry the card that opens the door. The card is not a possession. It is a summons. The Lord is in the house, and He is asking when you intend to come. Answer Him with your calendar." -- Your Pioneer Ancestor
Kirk Rollins@nicoraytruth

“Look at the temple closest to you. The one whose spire you can see from your commute, or the one an hour’s drive away, or the one in the city you used to live in. That building is not a community asset. It is not a beautiful landmark. It is a portal, in the most literal sense the word will bear, between the world of mortals and the world of resurrected beings, and the activities conducted inside it are not symbolic reenactments, they are the actual ordinances by which souls on both sides of the veil are bound to the Father and to each other. That is not a metaphor. That is the doctrine of the temple, taught plainly by every prophet from Joseph to the man holding the keys today. The work that happens in those rooms is the work that is currently happening on the other side of the veil simultaneously, with the same souls, in coordination, in real time. Every endowment is a passing through. Every sealing is a knot tied in two worlds at once. The Saints who treat the temple as a place of personal reflection are missing the half of it that is not about them. The temple is where the living and the dead meet to do the work of welding the human family back together in the order of heaven.” — your pioneer ancestor

I read a comment on this thread yesterday (no credit to me) that said…why does the male relative have enough cash to buy the child bride but not enough decency to help out financially to stop his relatives from starving. Whoever made that comment should be replacing the journalist who wrote this piece.

Tat is the problem, isn't it. The BBC decided to present men selling their tiny little daughters into a lifetime of rape and slavery as the more moral choice. You or I could find other options, but they see so little value in their daughters as humans that they made this evil choice, and the BBC praised them for it.

I'm sorry, but people have been making excuses for selling their daughters into sexual slavery throughout history, and all of them make the same excuses, but it does not change the fact that they did it because they simply do not value their daughters properly. How do I know? Note that they always consign their daughters to this before their sons or themselves. Note that their entire society normalizes it. Note that even Western outlets covering this find the fathers' "impossible choices" sympathetic and more worthy of coverage than what his daughter must think, being raped on a daily basis and knowing that her very own flesh and blood are responsible for dooming her to that fate. Note that the news stories do not ask why it is fathers making this decision, and not the mothers. From ancient China to modern Afghanistan, feeding yourself off the underage sexual exploitation of your own daughters is morally reprehensible, and I would simply rather die myself than ever consign any child to such suffering. The fact that these fathers do not feel the same when it comes to their own daughters is proof of their monstrosity, and the moral depravity of the BBC for asking us to identify with them rather than their daughters.

@anishmoonka You're telling me all this and it makes the idea of trying to lose excess fat/weight sound futile. The only way to break it down is to fast for 12-24 hours? I'll be starving and start throwing up. That's not practical 😣

Roughly 60 days of food is sitting on your body right now. About 131,000 calories of fat, packed and waiting. Your stomach still growls four hours after lunch, and your body treats that fat like a savings account it refuses to spend. Take the hunger hormone, ghrelin. Its job goes way beyond saying "eat now." Ghrelin spikes when the stomach is empty, makes food taste better, and quietly tells fat cells to hold on tighter. Researchers at the French health institute INSERM showed in 2016 that ghrelin pushes the body to store more fat and burn what is already there more slowly, even when appetite stays the same. So the same hormone that yells "I'm hungry" is whispering "but keep the fat just in case." The body burns fuels in a strict order. It keeps about 2,000 calories of fast-access fuel in the liver and muscles, a stored sugar called glycogen. That stash empties in 12 to 24 hours of skipping meals. Only after that does the body get serious about pulling from fat. A 2018 paper in the journal Obesity calls this changeover the metabolic switch, and it does not really flip until 12 to 36 hours into a fast. Four hours after lunch, the fat is barely on the menu. The growling itself is mostly housekeeping. Every 90 to 120 minutes between meals, a hormone called motilin sets off a wave of contractions that sweep leftover food bits, mucus, and stray bacteria through the gut. The noise is that sweeping. Doctors call it the migrating motor complex. It runs on a clock, no matter how much fat is sitting in storage. And the brain raises the alarm first. The brain is only 2% of body weight, but it burns about 20% of all daily energy, and it prefers sugar as fuel. When blood sugar dips even a little, the brain panics long before the body has touched the fat downstairs. For 200,000 years, missing a few meals could mean food was gone for weeks. The body still acts like that famine is one bad day away. The growl is an old security system protecting a savings account the body does not know you want to spend.

My five-year-old was just invited to a birthday party that required signing an NDA. The invitation arrived in a sealed wax envelope via certified mail. The party is for a kid named Jaxson whose parents own a boutique PR firm. The theme of the party is "Old Money." I don't know how a toddler is supposed to be old or money. The dress code explicitly bans primary colors. I had to buy my son a beige linen suit so he doesn't clash with the aesthetic of the bouncy castle. The bouncy castle isn't even bouncy. It's an inflatable muted taupe structure meant for quiet reflection. There won't be any cake because sugar disrupts Jaxson's chakra alignment. Instead, they are serving locally sourced artisanal root vegetables. We are expected to bring a gift that sparks sustainable joy. I bought a $40 wooden block that does absolutely nothing. My son is furious because he wants to go to Chuck E. Cheese and contract hantavirus in a ball pit like a normal kid. I told him we have to go to the old money party because Jaxson's dad has connections at a prestigious middle school. I am compromising my own child's happiness to network over raw turnips.

@soshullyinept @LukeFHan Restitution is part of it. Dignity-especially for the child-is another. Children know when they have no legitimate father. Why would you consign a child to bastardy when he could be legitimate?

No Catholic should attack Joseph over the age of his wives. Their own canon law allowed these marriages in Joseph's lifetime. "Until 1917, canon law had basically considered anyone above the age of 12 capable of marriage. Thus, when the 1917 Code raised the minimum age for marriage in the church to 14 for girls and 16 for boys (1917 CIC 1067), the change was greeted as an improvement" Not to mention that 14 year old girls are STILL permitted to marry today. So why have Matt Fradd, Joe Heschmeyer, Trent Horn, and others used his brides ages against him?

You do realize that the shame and the lack of resources involved is one of the primary reasons for abortion, and certainly a frequent reason for murdering the woman. How is increasing the dignity of the mother, the responsibility of the father, and the legitimacy of the child a better solution than increasing the rate of murder, abuse, and abortion?

@Libizis @LukeFHan Because it changes the obligation of the man. If a woman knowingly enters a man's bed when he is married, then she is just as culpable as he is and receives the same consequences. If she did not know, the man would be obligated to make sure she and his child are cared for.

It's not my emotions that lead stepfather and stepmother to abuse their children. Telling a mother that she just has to go find someone else to marry and raise the kids-that consigns the children to probable abuse and possible death. The man who fathered the children, do you really believe he gets to offload them onto a new dude and take off?

Nope, this question isn't about women being ok with polygamous situations prior to joining a faith. It's about what happens when a man has sex with more than one woman, and the expectations of inheritance, respect, acknowledgement, and support that the women and children involved should be entitled to.

You do realize that stepfathers are the primary abusers and murderers of stepchildren, yes? You think it's better for children to be fatherless or abused than raised by their own father as his legitimate children? And let's not pretend that men and women only have sex outside the first marriage before joining a chuech. That happens, it's ideal, but it's not the only reality out there.

@Libizis @LukeFHan The situation would be difficult, but not impossible. Continuing in a plural marriage instead of accepting the responsibility and consequences of extramarital affairs would be to continue in sin. Keep in mind that both the woman and man are at fault, so the woman will not get
