@Kidfears99 There’s something about 30 years that hits differently. Bittersweet, but also a testament to everything we’ve lived through! Grateful for this community and the people who keep showing up.

@LiddyHuntsman Happy Diaversary. This illness is a fucking beast, but it’s one we confront head-on day after day after day. That’s worth celebrating. (I was diagnosed 30 years ago this October!)

Today marks a milestone I never imagined celebrating. The girl in this video didn’t realize what was coming. How much this disease would take, and how much it would teach her. Thirty years ago, my 7 year old self woke up to a life that changed forever. A life with juvenile diabetes, now called type 1. This disease changed everything. My family. My body. My relationships. My confidence. The way I saw my future. It has been one of the most beautiful wars I’ve ever fought, and I’m still fighting it every single day. I’ve watched this world evolve from massive meters that took 45 seconds for a blood sugar reading, to controlling my pancreas from my phone. If you had told little me that, I wouldn’t have believed you. I was told I’d never have kids. I have two beautiful boys :) I was told I’d never have cake on my birthday. I eat the cake…and lots of it. I was told there would be a cure by the time I turned 18. I’m still waiting - but I’m more optimistic now than ever that we’re close. If there’s one thing this disease teaches you, it’s patience. Patience for a cure. Patience with your body. Patience with the constant highs and lows, literally and emotionally. Patience with feeling misunderstood. From day one, the part of this disease I’ve cared about most is the mental side of it. Because this doesn’t just live in your body. It lives in your mind. 24/7 My mom and I started a program almost 30 years ago called Bag of Hope, now through Breakthrough T1D, to give newly diagnosed families something we all need in the beginning. Hope. And connection. Because the truth is, the only people who really get this are the ones living it too. I am here today because of my type 1 community. And after 30 years, if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that connection isn’t optional with this disease. It’s how we survive it. I’ll keep fighting. I’ll keep speaking up. I’ll keep showing up for another 30 years if I have to. And I believe this now more than ever. We are closer than we’ve ever been to a cure. To anyone in this fight, you are not alone. 🩵💙🤍

@chrishardman I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, SLC residents don’t need to bankroll private projects to grow as a city. Period.

Salt Lake City is a green screen now. The mountains are still in the background, but they feel fake. They feel like a default wallpaper for a corporate retreat. Ryan Smith bought the state. He made his billions in survey software. The absolute lowest, most sterile form of tech. The digitization of the how was your meal? card. Society gave him an incomprehensible amount of money for this, and he used it to buy the Utah Jazz. The first thing he did was commit an aesthetic crime. This is important. It sounds trivial, but it isn’t. He took the purple mountain jerseys (a genuinely great, localized, historic aesthetic) and he incinerated them. He replaced them with Highlighter Yellow and flat black block text. The colors of a construction zone. He stripped away the identity of a team and made them look like a generic, unbranded asset from a free-to-play mobile game. He did this because tech billionaires have VC Brain. They despise organic beauty. They want everything to look like a sterile app icon. They want to smooth out the edges of the physical world until it resembles a software dashboard. He bought a defunct hockey team from the desert, dragged them to the mountains, and demanded a billion dollars in public tax money to build an "Entertainment District" downtown. You know exactly what an Entertainment District is. It is a fake city built inside a real city. It’s an outdoor luxury shopping mall where bugmen pay eighteen dollars for a hazy IPA while a screen the size of a Soviet apartment block blasts a DraftKings advertisement into their retinas. But it’s worse than just bad architecture. These teams aren't sports franchises anymore; they are vessels. They are sterile, neon Trojan horses rolled into the valley to import the social decay of Babylon. He uses them to pipe the exact same spiritual poison you find in every other collapsing coastal metropolis directly into the mountains. It’s state-sanctioned sports gambling shoved into every commercial break, turning the local populace into twitching dopamine addicts chasing algorithmic parlays. It’s the endless, mandatory corporate Pride month pageantry plastered across the jumbotrons. He is systematically strip-mining the state's remaining traditional morality and replacing it with the HR-approved global monoculture. He wants unlimited building heights. He wants a 99-year lease on the downtown core. He wants to bulldoze the weird, quiet, esoteric history of Salt Lake City and replace it with a Mixed-Use Development Zone. Utah used to be a fortress. A jagged, hostile rock at the end of the world founded by religious pioneers. Now it is a Beta Test. Ryan Smith is terraforming the state into a Qualtrics survey. He is building luxury holding pens for out-of-state tech transplants to wear $200 polyester jerseys and pretend they are part of a community.

You have to pay out of pocket $$$ or else you die. That’s usually the only option they give if they don’t approve or you don’t go with their recommendation. Forget your doctors recommendation - that advice is non existent in insurance companies. People don’t talk enough about the financial burden in the diabetes community.

@LiddyHuntsman @JaniceDean It should be a crime for insurance companies to deny coverage for insulin. If you are prescribed insulin, what other options do you have? Either you take it or you die.

@BreakthroughT1D This is such a loss for the community. I wish we could do more for mental health and those with T1D. Been fighting for this for decades! It’s crucial and part of the management. We need it more than ever!

Breakthrough T1D is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Madison Warner, daughter of U.S. Senator Mark Warner and Lisa Collis. Senator Warner has been a strong supporter of Breakthrough T1D and an advocate for the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community, as Madison lived with T1D. Our thoughts are with Senator Warner, his wife, Lisa, and the entire Warner family during this very difficult time. This is another tragic reminder that our work is not done. Breakthrough T1D will continue to fight tirelessly for cures so that no family has to experience the loss of a loved one to type 1 diabetes and its complications.

I’ve cried on the phone with insurance multiple times just trying to get my insulin approved - the drug I need to stay alive! Insurance companies should not be overriding a patient’s doctor like they continue to do. Doctors are the experts, not insurance. It’s unacceptable. I’m so sorry you’re going through this 💔

@AlPalz81 @yashar Yes- but there are many in the community such as myself who didn’t have technology available for decades. It’s become much more manageable the last 8 years, but complications still happen. Absolutely heartbreaking 💔

@MarkWarner I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. My parents have always valued connecting with you as another parent raising a daughter with type 1. After nearly 30 years living with this disease, I know how relentless it can be. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. 🤍

Sitting here in Madrid and can’t help but notice the lack of homeless people on the street. I looked it up. In a city of 3.5m people, ~5000 are homeless. Same as in Salt Lake, a city of 205,000 people. And they’re both run by socialists! Something’s not adding up…

BREAKING The New York Times has published a deeply reported investigation about Cesar Chavez in which women, for the first time, share their stories accusing Chavez of raping them when they were children. Dolores Huerta also shares, for the first time in 60 years, that Chavez raped her. Full Story: nyti.ms/40AfEHh

Who pays when the federal government drops an ICE detention facility in your city with zero coordination? Spoiler: it’s us. Talked to @KUTV2 about why this looks a lot like an unfunded mandate — and why Salt Lake City deserves a seat at the table. 👇 @tvheidihatch kutv.com/news/local/con…
