@City_Xtra @JacobsBen @alex_crook He ruined Gibbs-White's final career big move last season. Seems he's about to ruin Anderson's career real quick too. Anything more than £60m, he should kindly keep his player. We can always go for Alex Baena or go to Ligue 1 or Bundesliga for proper technical midfielders.

@Jotaro623722 @DawgyyDawgg It's funny how a Pep team has to be playing in an anti-Pep way in order to not self-combust outside England. Maybe we need to start teaching our players how to defy some of his instructions & just wing certain phases of play on their own, ignoring whatever setup he put in place.

@LifeOfMayowa @DawgyyDawgg I don't agree he popularized it. 4-2-3-1 is in Bayern DNA. But I agree, playing under pep can be such a nerf it's insane. The UCL we won in 2023 was largely thanks to kdb entering flow state and Rodri holding things down every where else. And that's probably the most anti pep set

@Jotaro623722 @DawgyyDawgg Pep is the only coach that'd win a literal treble with a formation, and bin it right after that UCL final against Inter. He has, not even by mistake, ever played that formation again - even when the starting 11 was the same treble players. Who in their right senses does that?

@Jotaro623722 @DawgyyDawgg His tactics are actually good - Bayern & Arsenal are literally playing the 4-2-3-1 tactic that he popularized. But he's so stubborn in strange ways that nerf 70% of the squad He's so adamant on winning a certain way he has in his mind else he throws the baby with the bath water
Mayowa, Esq.@LifeOfMayowa

@A_AmarisUnivers @allyspeirs @lizblue57 Exactly. Maresca, Nagelsmann can pick it up from here. Even a PE teacher would do a better job than 2026 Pep. This squad is extremely talented. All this twisted tactics is bizzare & unnecessary stuff. Just play the players in a comfortable setup - even a basic 4-2-3-1 works.

@abzMCFC___ Kompany just played his normal game - nothing different or extraordinary (which is the sound thing to do). Guardiola, on the other hand, twisted the hell out of everything in a unnecessary bid to confuse the opponent, only to end up also confusing his own players.
Mayowa, Esq.@LifeOfMayowa

@StevenMcinerney Finally got to watch his team against a proper opposition and, tbh, there's nothing special about his tactics. Just normal 4-2-3-1 (which Pep is strangely so stubborn to not play). His setup very similar to what Carrick did: Just play the players in their comfortable positions

@MCFCDamo @StevenMcinerney I don't think so tbh. The squad is amazing. Literally any coach's dream. This squad is ONLY underperforming because of Guardiola. Even a basic 4-2-3-1 setup works with the players we have. Pep is so adamant on winning a certain way/accomodating some players, hence our issues
Mayowa, Esq.@LifeOfMayowa

@ItsYanCity @Shamarfraser21 Honestly don't think so. These players don't need some supernatural elite coaching. Just play them in a normal, non-twisted setup. Even a very average coach can do a better job than 2026 Pep. Would he invent new tactics? No. Does City need to invent new tactics to win? No.

@reubenaitor @nnadaido @ZakiRahman4813 @isaac1k__ Fair tbh. But I think he'd prefer to stay for cup games in the hope that he can sneak in some EPL game time when the starters are injured, then gradually walk his way into the main rotation by season end. Going on another loan means he won't be integrated until 2028 at earliest.

@Leggy915961 @Liamsz007 That'd be amazing then. I liked his ideas in Madrid, even though the execution wasn't very successful. We have many technical players in our squad compared to Madrid, so his approach has a higher chance of working at City.

🚨BREAKING: As I’ve been told yesterday, Elliot Anderson will be a Manchester City player; LET'S LAUNCH! Manchester City are set to complete the deal following the World Cup. With the details of his contract, mainly involving his wages, being negotiated at the end of the season; @ManCity want to respect Nottingham Forest. If @NFFC get relegated, Anderson will cost upwards of £30-40M. However, Elliot Anderson is now a Manchester City player. #MCFC

@City_Xtra @alex_crook Wingback football?
Mayowa, Esq.@LifeOfMayowa

@Liamsz007 Unless he's changing that his wingback formation, then no. Man City can't play wingback football. And it'd be a disaster to bring in another Amorim-type coach who's interested in playing in a way that doesn't suit the players. If he's open to change, then he's a good option.

@MarmoushEra Doku is better than both of them, what is this disrespect 🤦🏼‍♂️ Doue & Barcola play in farmers league - absolutely nobody is double-teaming, not to talk of triple-teaming these guys. Doku is being asked to progress the ball, hug the touchline, create AND still score - be realistic
Mayowa, Esq.@LifeOfMayowa

@FavouredSon78 @Ellis_ Nope, Doku is the best in the world. He doesn't need to score or even assist to impact games. Total day & night for City when Doku plays and when he doesn't. These other guys are playing in farmers leagues with so much space in-behind & little physicality/triple-teaming.

@snapdragon_ke @GCNA_ I actually think Haaland is fumbling Doku, not the other way round. Obviously, Erling is amazing at finishing, but his connection with Doku is really odd. Pep needs to have two of them take drills, so they get used to each other. 8 out of 10 brilliant Doku cutbacks are wasted.

Doku has the most assists to Haaland this season. Savio had the most assists to Haaland last season. Cherki has 1 more assist than Doku. Cherki has 2 more BCC created from open play than Doku. Anything other than goals criticism, I will not entertaining.
The City Crew@The_CityCrew

Let’s talk about two of City’s wingers, Jeremy Doku and Savinho. The future of this pair is a topic we feel needs to be discussed. First of all, both of these players were signed at a very young age and are very much project players - not the finished article. Having signed Semenyo, a player who is much closer to the finished article, we can see the difference it makes to the team. That level of consistency that he offers has made a tremendous difference and it’s not something we see from either Doku or Savinho. Both are both really talented in their own ways, but as project signings, are they REALLY what we need? If we’re going to buy players to develop we can’t keep them all nor play them all as a top club. Semenyo is the bare minimum for what we need as a winger at City with that level of consistent output. Savinho has got an excellent delivery, decent dribbling, great ball carrying, hit and miss decision making, inability to score from the right and potential ability to score from the left but still not consistently. But he can beat a man quickly and put a ball in for Haaland, which is arguably more important than goals from a City winger. Doku can’t consistently find Haaland and that becomes an issue when he can’t score either. Fine, if he can’t find Haaland consistently it’s okay if he can score himself, but he can’t. World class at beating a man, but not up to scratch with everything else. When there’s space, Doku is great because he can find a pass. but as we saw at the weekend against Liverpool, every pass was rushed and unplanned and didn’t find its target - and that’s the issue… he puts the ball to where he thinks someone should be, not where someone is. And it’s why Haaland benefits from Nunes so much because Nunes puts the ball in on Haaland’s head… not in an area, or the likes of Cherki who see his runs and play it into him then. People made the argument that Haaland is lazy and doesn’t make the back post run for Doku, but what about all the times Doku cuts back… if Haaland’s standing at the back post there’s complaints that he’s not there for the cut back. Problem is, Doku doesn’t decide whether he’s cutting back or playing it to the back post until the moment he hits it. Impossible to read - it’s why he’s a nightmare for defenders but it hurts our attack too. A lot of the time he doesn’t hit it to pick out a man he just hits it randomly and sometimes it pays off. Only time he finds a man is when the defenders step off him and he has time to look up and see Haaland stood on the penalty spot so he fizzes it across. But once he enters the ball 18 yard box he doesn’t look up enough because otherwise he will lose the ball due to his acceleration and excellent dribbling. Savinho has provided plenty of assists and definitely has creativity in abundance which is fantastic for us but there’s games he goes missing and we struggle to create from his side at all. There’s many admirable qualities there but for both of them, it always comes down to one word that’s been repeated a hundred times in this tweet - CONSISTENCY. Overall, by all means, have your project players… but as projects they won’t be consistent and at a top club you need consistency, so it feels as though we need another winger whilst this pair develop or we can cash in and let them develop elsewhere. It’s tricky as there’s clearly talent in abundance with both of them.
