@bryan_johnson How do we disentangle whether the dementia risk reduction is due to pleiotropic effects of statins or simply from ApoB lowering? Would be valuable to compare outcomes with non-statin ApoB-lowering therapies like ezetimibe or PCSK9 inhibitors.

Statins reduce dementia risk by up to 63% Published earlier this year, the largest meta-analysis to date involved over 7 million participants in 55 studies and concluded that statin use reduced the risk of Alzheimer Disease and Dementia. 0/ Being exposed to statins for over 3 years reduced dementia risk by 63% 1/ Statin users in general demonstrated 14% reduction in overall dementia risk, 18% and 11% reduction in Alzheimer Disease and Vascular Dementia risk, respectively. 2/ Subgroup analysis showed that statins reduced dementia risk in type-2-diabetics by 13%. 3/ Rosuvastatin use correlated with the greatest dementia risk reduction of 28% 4/ Caution: statins are prescription drugs and should not be taken without consulting your doctors. While common side effects include muscle pain, a much rarer side effect is muscles breaking down (Rhabdomoylysis) which leads to severe muscle pain, and irreversible muscle and kidney damage with continued use of statins.

Keep in mind Flu A LFTs are far less sensitive than SARS-CoV-2 LFTs—about half. A negative Flu A test doesn’t rule out infection. Flu A viral load peaks fast & declines quickly, making pre-symptomatic & late testing unreliable. SARS-CoV-2 has higher, longer viral loads & more pre-symptomatic shedding.

10) If you don’t know, then get a cheap home test that deciphers Flu A, Flu B, vs COVID. If you identify Flu A, then you can try to ask for further testing from your state if it’s bird flu. 📍Stack these promo codes: “BF25” and “WELCOME5” for 25% off… store.pharmalynk.com/products/cordx…

@DrEricDing Waiting 2 months seems too long—why wait? Surely the current administration can take action now, given that this issue has been intensifying over the past ~8 months. What specific steps can and should be taken right away?

Just adding that not all humidifiers are the same. In Colorado, for example, we found that ultrasonic humidifiers can indeed lead to poor air quality, leaving a fine white dust of calcium deposits on surfaces due to tap water minerals. But, evaporative and steam humidifiers avoid this issue by trapping the minerals as residue within the humidifier.

This seems important to better understand Portable humidifiers (the kind you put in your kids room to help them sleep better) can be adding particulate matter to the air when using tap water, greatly harming air quality I’ll be using our reverse osmosis water from hear on out

You've likely heard about gas stoves and indoor air pollution. But we don't have a gas stove. Yet, we had an indoor air pollution mystery that took me and my husband (both PhDs) 11 nights of bad air to figure out. What the heck was going on? A 🧵 1/18

For a long time, dementia was seen as an inevitable part of aging or the result of poor genetics. But according to new research: More than 40% of dementia cases are easily preventable. Here's what you can do to slow your cognitive decline:

Is there evidence showing a difference in clinical outcomes for patients with high Lp(a) who achieve therapeutically reduced ApoB/LDL-c levels compared to those without intervention? In other words, are there any studies that specifically show Lp(a) risk can be offset by reducing total atherogenic burden while Lp(a) levels remain high?

There is a wealth of information on this graphic - Try to understand each segment - it clearly shows what the standard LIPID PANEL (profile) most folks get and most clinicians order and more importantly what it does not show: there are ZERO lipoprotein particle concentrations (by far the most important thing to know) reported - the expect people to use these lipid metrics and GUESS what apoB and LDL-P are. The problem is too often the lipid and lipoprotein metrics do correlate (they are discordant). Moral of the story - always get an apoB @nationallipid @society_eas @TheFHFoundation @atherosociety #lipids

JUST IN— W.H.O. Declares Global Emergency Over New Mpox Outbreak. The threat this time is deadlier. Since the beginning of this year, the Democratic Republic of Congo alone has reported more than 14,000 mpox cases and 524 deaths. Those most at risk include women and children under 15. The outbreak has spread through 13 countries in Africa, including a few that had never reported mpox cases before. (Gift 🎁 link) nytimes.com/2024/08/14/hea…

Let this sink in—We could have prevented 98% of all the millions of lives lost and prevented hundreds of millions of #LongCovid if only we had acted earlier & with swifter urgency against #COVID19–➡️This is the toll of failed leadership & attacking whistleblowers. #CovidIsNotOver

@DrEricDing Surprising there is no special expedited track to safely test & deploy minor modifications to the mRNA to stay ahead. Seems odd we can go from no vaccine to distributing multiple working vaccines in < 1 yr, but can't "tweak the recipe" in > 1 yr.

@LifeWorthEating Potentially. Getting the randomized trials done is the harder part for each. Trials are painstaking and time consuming to enroll and costly. It’s possible - the mixed spike mRNA formulations already begun.

@DrEricDing Dr Ding - Q: Given the multiple overlapping amino acid changes between alpha, gamma, delta and omicron.. can one assume that a multivalent targeted mRNA vaccine would offer better immunity? Trying to understand why after 2 yrs we are still vaccinating against ref strain

@MonicaGandhi9 @eladgil You mentioned the 3 vs. 4 wk. gap between BNT162b2 and mRNA-1273 doses 1+2, but not the 30 mcg vs 100 mcg doses. Given the similarity in vaccines, is that less significant than delay between dosing, wrt waning antibody immunity?

Does anyone besides me feel that the messaging over the last month in the US has basically served to terrify the vaccinated and make unvaccinated eligible adults doubt the effectiveness of the vaccines?
