i met a girl on a night train a few months ago she just opened the cabin door around midnight, looked at me for half a second and said "hey" like we already knew each other somehow it was one of those sleeper trains between cities where nobody really talks she put her bag down, sat across from me, and for maybe 20 minutes we just existed in silence while the train kept moving through nowhere the weird part is i wasn’t uncomfortable at all usually silence with strangers feels heavy but with her it felt normal at some point neither of us could sleep so we ended up sitting by the window watching random towns pass in the dark we talked a little after that small things mostly like where we were from or why we were traveling nothing much, but every answer she gave felt strangely familiar, like talking to someone i forgot i knew i remember thinking her eyebrows were perfect which is such a random detail but for some reason that’s the thing my brain kept holding onto around 4 am the whole cabin was asleep except us there was this moment where she looked out the window and said: "crazy how you can sit next to someone for a few hours and probably never see them again" and i laughed because i thought she was trying to sound deep but when the train stopped at her station she grabbed her bag and stood by the door for a second like she wanted to say something else i almost asked for her number, she almost asked for mine instead we just smiled at each other like idiots then she stepped off the train and disappeared into a crowd of people i’ll never know and that was it just one random night with someone who felt weirdly important for no reason at all i still think about her
