I hope this isn’t true. There are times when it’s more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham’s longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter dire threat of a Reform UK government theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

Design legend Margaret Calvert is 90 today.
Look at that cake!
If you've ever admired a road, rail or metro sign in Britain it's likely she had something to do with it.
One of Britain's design heroes.

@AngelaRayner Labour exists for ALL the working class, not just 'working people' - this includes the disabled, pensioners, those on welfare and children. How dare you pitch those working against those on welfare and don't forget over 40% on welfare ARE in work & 55% are pensioners.

A lot of talk about suspicious goings on with Reform councillors. I started looking into our local councillor who has knocked out the sitting Tory. Apparently the photo used online is not actually the person named. Reform has used a photo of a former Chief Constable and CBE rather than the actual man who stood and was elected to the council. The plot thickens……

Thirty-six medical experts have formally warned Congress that President Donald J. Trump is mentally unfit to serve and should be removed from office "with the greatest urgency," saying he "presents a clear and present danger" to the country and the world. The group, made up of neurologists, psychiatrists, geriatricians and other clinicians, points to worsening cognition, grandiose delusions and severely impaired judgment as core concerns. Their statement, now printed in the Senate's Congressional Record, is drawing fresh scrutiny this week as lawmakers and reporters pore over the evidence. The experts frame their intervention as a national security warning rather than a partisan broadside.
What the experts told lawmakers
The full statement, titled "Medical Concerns About President Donald J. Trump and His Fitness for Office," details what the signers describe as observable warning signs. They cite a "marked deterioration in cognitive functioning" and "grandiose and delusional beliefs" that they say have emerged or worsened over time. Because the president remains commander in chief, they argue, those issues create unique risks and justify urgent action. The statement urges that "steps to remove him from office must be undertaken with the greatest urgency" and notes that the text has been entered into the official record, according to the Congressional Record. @RespectIsVital Yes and it will just lead to them relying on parents, putting them under pressure.

@nickurrz @RespectIsVital Someone will know the figures but my experience is that hardly anyone qualifies for 24 hour care.
English

@RespectIsVital It won't be for people with severe 24hr care. They will be exempt.

@RespectIsVital An Early Day Motion has been created by MP Neil Duncan-Jordan to oppose the disqualification of under 22s from incapacity benefits
People need to ask their MP to sign it so that we can get this dangerous, discriminatory & financially illogical proposal scrapped (see ALT text) 👇

@partridge96209 @RespectIsVital This is actually an argument that severely disabled people are a family responsibility. I’d have more respect for it if it was made clearly. At least it would be obvious where to aim the protest…

@RespectIsVital My friend's 20 year old daughter has Down syndrome and autism. She cannot be outside alone as she has no sense of danger. Is she magically going to be OK until she turns 22?

Rome demands an apology from Trump. Meloni has run out of patience.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly returning to the White House with a disastrous report. His mission to Rome and the Vatican turned into a diplomatic nightmare. Neither personal diplomacy nor his status as a practicing Catholic managed to break through the wall that Trump’s policies have created.
In the Oval Office, Rubio may now have to admit: Rome is no longer an ally Washington can count on “by default.”
✔️ “One of us among strangers”: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reportedly reminded Rubio of his Piedmont roots directly to his face. It was not a compliment — it was a pointed message: he should be pro-European, not an instrument of political pressure.
✔️ Religious divide: Despite Rubio being Catholic, both the Vatican and Rome allegedly gave him a cold reception. Meloni is said to have stated openly that Trump insulted the Catholic world and must publicly retract his remarks about the Pope.
✔️ Ultimatums instead of cooperation: From military base access to proposed 25% tariffs on automobiles, Rubio reportedly received a political “dressing down.” Rome is no longer willing to jump every time Trump whistles.
✔️ The end of illusions: Trump may have hoped to find “his own Orbán” in Meloni — but instead encountered a leader whose patience has snapped. Washington’s dismissive tone toward European allies is no longer being tolerated in Rome.
This marks a serious fracture in relations.
Rubio did not bring agreements — he brought pressure. And as the Pope reportedly said: “Simply forgetting what happened yesterday is no longer enough.”
Europe no longer accepts dictates without resistance.
Now the next move belongs to Washington: public apologies — or a final rupture.
