@runthinkwrite @JournalistJill Class dimension is blurred these days, altho’ still a present obstacle for far too many. A greater constant remains bog-standard misogyny, which rules regardless of “class” 🤷‍♀️ A female flagrantly [insert fainting emoji] being a woman would be reprimanded, no matter her “class”!

As someone who thinks 'everything is up for grabs, nothing is sacred, let's hear your best argument', I'm a bit dismayed that we seem to be having an argument about whether male academics harassing female students by wearing huge false breasts to work is a Bad Thing or not. ...

The second intifada made life worse for Palestinians in Palestine. Globalising the intifada will likely make life worse for everyone, across the globe. This is a very dangerous and sad time.

This @TrevorPTweets interview with @ZackPolanski needs to be shared and viewed as widely as possible. I've never before seen an interviewer give a proper focus to Polanski's dissembling and refuse to let him get away with his usual evasions. It's a masterclass in the importance of serious scrutiny, which is now so lacking in broadcast journalism (with the exception of @TrevorPTweets) youtu.be/7VkfYJgLljE?si…

'To Jewish families, more than 1000 years of history is bleak evidence that they are right to fear they will once again be on their own.' @TrevorPTweets reflects on antisemitism in Britain, after a swathe of violence against the Jewish community trib.al/S3icMYg

Now live: Josh Breslaw’s full speech from the @Freedom_in_Arts parliamentary launch of The New Boycott Crisis and the Art Beyond Boycott Toolkit. A powerful speech on Oi Va Voi, cancellation, Jewish cultural life and what happens when artists are judged through identity, association and political assumption rather than artistic merit.

When you get cancelled from playing in your home town because you are Jewish. Listen to Josh Breslaw’s heart breaking speech about how the music industry is cancelling Jews for being Jews.

@joshxhowie @JammersMinde Notably, he says that he has Jewish acquaintances because of where he lives, and inferred that is why he has a modicum of understanding. It’s a great disappointment that society has to rely on individuals personally knowing a member of whatever group in order to have empathy.

Maybe the real mind virus of the last decade was suddenly having to agree with every single point or opinion someone expressed, or they were THE ENEMY. Case in point, I strongly disagree with Boy George on gender ideology, but he’s been excellent and brave standing with Jews against antisemitism. It scrambles my brain. This could be what JK Rowling was getting at last week. You’re never going to find someone you agree with on every single fine point of every single issue, and I think for many of us we’re just trying to find an individual or politician we agree with enough to then hand over the rest of our thinking to them. The solution seems to be a bit more thinking, an openness to our failings and others, and being a bit more forgiving when it comes to our fellow humans and not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Can we just accept that someone can be wrong on some stuff and right on other stuff and that’s okayish? It’s going to be really tough but I’ll give it a go!

This video is less than two minutes long and I implore everyone to watch it. It is indeed rather extraordinary. As Holocaust Awareness Ireland says, Patrick Kielty exhibits utter callousness with respect to the attacks on the Jewish community, astonishingly saying ‘the backdrop of that is obviously the horrors in Gaza, this is a complex thing.’ Boy George remains calm and says ‘if you don’t know any Jewish people maybe that’s the problem.’ He then asks the audience ‘do you know any Jewish people?’ Boy George is visibly taken aback by the ensuing silence, and vocalises his shock twice, remarking that it is ‘weird’ and ‘surprising me a little bit.’ Patrick looks uncomfortable and ends puts an end to the topic with a dismissive ‘mmm’. Extraordinary viewing. Just extraordinary.

“To dare to be Jewish in artistic spaces today means that strangers and activists believe that they have the right to demand you take a position…” A powerful contribution from Josh Breslaw of Oi Va Voi at the launch of @Freedom_in_Arts’ New Boycott Crisis report and Art Beyond Boycott Toolkit in the Palace of Westminster. This is why the report matters.

@RobbieRinder Yes, & also scarily how a kid felt no social sanction would come from his behaviour that you described. How it begins: “The most striking thing: I wasn’t shocked. No threat. No anger. Not a victim. Just: what has he been taught Hatred is learned.” Where does it lead to though ?

On Carnaby Street last night, a kid on a bike cycled up, saw it was me, looked friendly at first then offered up his favourite “lyric”: “Heil Hitler.” I wasn’t sure whether to share this. I hadn’t experienced that personally before. The most striking thing: I wasn’t shocked. No threat. No anger. Not a victim. Just: what has he been taught Hatred is learned. We are not defined by it. We answer it by what we teach.
