Italy 🇮🇹 economic problems cannot be solved unless we finally accept that the root cause is not something that happened 24 to 34 years ago, but something that happened 62 to 52 years ago. Italy 🇮🇹 hasn’t had a working social contract for longer than my own life. The economic decline is downstream from there. The problem is that the electorate is not going to accept we need to fundamentally change the social contract. I once voted for the nuclear energy is a referendum where my side got like 5% of the votes. If we voted on a referendum for the new social contract we need, my side would be amazed to get the 0.5%, let alone the 5%. This is sadly a problem not limited to Italy 🇮🇹. The economic decline of the West has many causes, but at the root there is a complete fundamental misunderstanding of how the world works from a staggering majority of the population - elite included. It is an amazingly complex problem.
Wolfgang Munchau@EuroBriefing

Giorgia Meloni is a much over-rated politician, especially abroad. Since coming to power, she and her government managed to keep off the radar screen of the bond market vigilantes, but they have not solved a single of Italy festering structural economic problems, like bureaucratic inertia and weak capital markets. This has been a country with practically zero  productivity growth for a quarter of a century. Instead, like other failing Italian prime ministers before her, she wasted her political capital on another silly electoral reform, which has now been defeated.  Our lead story this morning.  eurointelligence.com

@Lindw0rm @aledeniz Funny how your only example of a functioning European democracy is Switzerland, hardly a prototype for any other democracy, also not really a democracy and not part of the EU. You sound stupid

@gabagulll @aledeniz Italians are some of the worst functional illiterates in Europe. Democracy works well in countries like Switzerland. Italians are prone to manipulation because they are fundamentally unable to think in a civilized manner as a group. A new social contract could help. But..

Ave Europa
Ave Europa@AveEuropae·
Official Statement of the Ave Europa Board Dear friends, dear Ave Europa comrades and dear Europeans, Over the past few days, comments have been circulating on X and other platforms that are not only factually incorrect but, in some cases, written with clear malicious intent. What has unfolded makes it once again clear what Europe continues to suffer from: political dishonesty, political cowardice, and opportunism. The Board has therefore decided to issue a fully transparent statement - the time has come to take a clear stance. 1. On the current wave of attacks A group of people have chosen to publicly attack Ave Europa together with expelled members - on X and on Substack. We have no fundamental objection to being criticised or attacked - that is part of political life. What is not acceptable are deliberate false claims and disinformation. A large portion of the attacks we have received recently comes from individuals we were compelled to expel from the organisation or remove from the federal board - due to sabotage, toxic behaviour, and condescending comments against women in private chat groups 2. On the specific allegations We are accused of having become an organisation close to the AfD, neo-Nazi, or illiberal in character. These labels are hollow attacks without a substantive basis - the result of wounded egos, not serious political engagement. They use precisely the tactics we otherwise see from other anti-European actors. We cannot fight disinformation on one front whilst tolerating it being used against us on another. These accusations are simply untrue. 2.1 On the invitation of Tim Schramm The most concrete point of contention concerns our decision to invite Tim Schramm to our planned Assembly in May 2026. Schramm is a 22-year-old dissident AfD member who publicly advocated for Ukraine and even took up arms at the front - a stance that has made him a target within his own party. We do not share all of his political positions. He is invited to contribute perspectives on the anti-European right in a debate panel, and is known for exposing and criticising the full Russian influence within the AfD. Anyone who wishes to effectively combat the anti-European right must first understand it. What is being practised here is guilt by association - the insinuation that engaging in dialogue with someone legitimises their views. That is not a political argument; it is political cowardice. It is also worth noting that some of those now criticising this invitation had themselves previously engaged with the same pro-Ukrainian figures from the right in the context of Ave Europa only a few months ago. 3. What Ave Europa is - and what it aspires to be Ave Europa stands for democracy and the foundational values of freedom in Europe - without reservation. We did not set out to prop up Macron or von der Leyen; our mandate is to be an unmistakable voice for better and clearer leadership in Europe. We believe the ECHR must be reformed - not because we aspire to an illiberal democracy, but because we want to improve and save Europe. We also invited an MEP and mostly Renew People, despite not being entirely aligned with everything. The political reality in Europe is serious: almost 30% of German voters lean towards the AfD; in France, the RN reaches over 40% in some polls. Add to that Orbán in Hungary, Reform UK, Vox in Spain, and other anti-European forces across the continent. If Europe does not change, its opponents will win. That is something we refuse to accept. Ave Europa exists because we genuinely want to change Europe - not for funding, sponsorship, or prestige on a CV. Our goal is to offer people a political home - a voice on the European stage that has quite simply been missing until now. 4. Outlook: Assembly May 2026 In May 2026, our major anniversary event will take place - the Assembly in the castle. Our motto is: Reclaim Europe. We have invited thinkers from business, politics, and civil society, and the programme has been carefully assembled. The team behind the scenes - loyal, committed, and driven by genuine conviction - will keep advancing this organisation regardless of turbulence. Closing words To all those considering leaving Ave Europa, or to whom this message has been forwarded, our advice is not to act hastily. An organisation and an idea must grow organically. A European civilisational state is not built overnight. We are not illiberal anti-democrats, and the movement won’t pursue such a path. We will always fight for freedom and for Europe - regardless of whether we grow, stagnate, or shrink. We can look at ourselves in the mirror and say: we remained true. We wish you all a wonderful week. With European regards, The Ave Europa Board

I left Coinbase for @krakenfx. Not because of one thing. Because of everything. Here's what most people don't realize about Kraken in 2026. They're not just a crypto exchange anymore. 11,000+ US stocks. 560+ cryptos. Gold. Oil. Futures. All in one account. Zero commission on stocks. And if you're just holding cash as a stablecoin, you're earning 2 to 4% APR automatically. Your bank gives you 0.5%. Some key things that made me switch: • @krakenpro fees start at 0.25% maker. Lower than most competitors at base level. • Instant USD withdrawals. 365 days a year. Try getting that from your bank. • USDG earns yield the moment it hits your account. No lockups. Paid weekly. • They've never been hacked. Never lost customer funds. Since 2011. • Wyoming SPDI charter. 100% reserve requirement on cash deposits. And then this happened. Nasdaq announced a partnership with Kraken on March 9. They're building tokenized versions of listed stocks together. Full governance rights. Voting. Dividends. The biggest tech stock exchange in the world chose Kraken. Oh and if you hold HBAR, Kraken is running a trading challenge right now. 300,000 HBAR reward pool. Trade the HBAR perp on Kraken Pro, compete based on volume. First 2,000 clients. Runs through March 23. For international users it gets even crazier. xStocks give you tokenized US equities trading 24/7 with up to 20x leverage in 110+ countries. Crypto exchanges are becoming the new brokerages. And Kraken is leading the charge.

Funny story, I actually I ran into Kylie Jenner at an Aldi in Düsseldorf last week. She was sitting on the floor next to the frozen fish section. I asked if she was okay. She said she just broke up with Timothee Chalamet. I said I don't know who that is. "I don't follow American celebrity culture" I said She asked where I'm from. I said Germany. "I heard German men are different" she said I said we are. We arrive on time and we finish what we start. She bit her lip. She asked me if I've ever had my heart broken. I said yes. In 2016. When Great Britain left the EU. We went for a coffee. When the bill came, i suggested we split it and leave no tip. I sent her a PayPal request for €3.20. She was visibly impressed how progressive Europe is. "Do you want to grab a drink at your place?" she suggested I said I can't. My wife's boyfriend is visiting tonight and the apartment is only 29 square metres. She texts me every week now. I never respond though. I only have EU roaming. Kylie, if you're reading this, you still owe me €3.20 for that coffee.

Merz has called for the systematic review of all EU legislation. That's over 140,000 regulations. Knowing the EU, that will take over 140,000 days. So, I made bettereu.com where Grok 4.1 will review every document since 1958 -> 2025.
Clash Report@clashreport

Germany's Merz: We must deregulate every sector. I call for a “regulatory clean slate.” Minor corrections to laws are not sufficient. We need to systematically review the whole set of existing EU legislation.

Italy's history making generation claim another scalp. And it's a whopper. Years of toil and pain have hardened them into a Six Nations force. Perhaps their greatest day. And the man they say was 'touched by God', Tommaso Menoncello, to the fore again. Wow
