@aadilbrar Isn't it interesting how no matter what China does, it can negatively framed? If it directly spied or attacked Anthropic -> Bad. If it just tries to initiate conversations -> Also bad

China did not hack Anthropic. Did not bribe Anthropic. Did not invade Anthropic. They sent a think tank emissary to Singapore and quietly asked Anthropic for access to its most powerful AI model, the system behind Mythos. When Anthropic refused, the White House did not treat it as a minor diplomatic courtesy. It treated it as a warning. That reaction alone tells you more about the new Cold War than any Pentagon briefing. We are not talking about tanks or carriers anymore. We are talking about model weights, inference servers, and which country gets to see the next leap in frontier AI first. This was not a failed espionage plot. It was a discreet probe. Beijing is testing whether it could acquire what it cannot reliably build on its own. The fact that they did not even try to disguise it as academic collaboration says a lot about how openly strategic this game has become. Behind the scenes, the US government is already scrambling to regulate how powerful models like Mythos and OpenAI’s latest cyber-focused GPT 5.5 variants are deployed, because the same AI that can hunt for vulnerabilities in software can also be used to find them in air defense networks, power grids, and missile-sensing infrastructure. In other words, the AI race is no longer an abstract tech debate. It is a national security race where access to a single model can shift the balance of power, and one quiet note from Anthropic in Singapore just became a geopolitical event. If you are not watching model licensing deals, back-channel outreach, and export control foot traffic around the big AI labs, you are still fighting the last war.

@alemannoEU Why are we treating social media as they currently exist as this unstoppable force of nature? Why should the burden fall on teachers, parents etc instead of dealing with the root causes (big tech's algorithmic systems that cause depression, addiction etc)? This is just a band aid

🚨 Should children be banned from social media, and on what legal, scientific, and democratic basis? The European Journal of Risk Regulation is calling for submissions on one of the most contested regulatory debates of our time and soon will publish a Special Issue. Australia has already moved. France, Spain, Denmark, and Poland are entering a beauty contest on who's going to ban first. The EU's Digital Fairness Act is in the pipeline. And US courts have just held Meta and Google liable for addictive platform design. The social denormalisation of platforms has begun, for good. Yet the evidence base remains deeply unsettled: both on the underlying phenomenon and on the effectiveness of interventions. Does social media actually cause harm? Do age bans work? And are these interventions proportionate, enforceable, and rights-compatible? This special issue, which I'll be co-editing with Amandine Garde (University of Liverpool) and Sébastien Fassiaux (ESADE), invites rigorous and original contributions from law, political science, public health, psychology, and sociology on: → The science-policy interface: how regulators use (and misuse) contested evidence → Comparative regulatory design: age verification, platform liability, algorithmic duties → Fundamental rights: children's autonomy vs. protection → EU law: DSA enforcement, GDPR, the Digital Fairness Check → Enforcement, effectiveness, and unintended consequences → Democratic legitimacy: who speaks for the child? Abstract deadline: 22 May 2025 (500 words) Full papers: 15 September 2025 Publication: Spring 2027 Submit to: wirajendi@hec.fr Cliff Wirajendi SPREAD THE WORD! Full CFP: cambridge.org/core/journals/… @EurJRR @CUP_PoliSci @CUP_Law Early-career researchers especially welcome. If the politics of digital risk is your field, this is for you!

On Saturday I went to my synagogue. I was checked by security at the gates. I passed protective railings, and then a guard at the front door buzzed me in. Another guard waited inside. Just wondering. Is this normal for Christians, Muslims or Hindus in the UK? Or only for Jews?

🇹🇼 Taiwan's KMT just cut $15B from Lai's defense budget — including 210K drones, the T-Dome missile system, and all joint Taiwan-US R&D. What's left: US weapons only. No indigenous defense. No self-reliance. The US State Dept called it "a concession to the CCP." KMT chair Cheng Li-wun met Xi Jinping in Beijing on April 10. Less than a month later, her party canceled Taiwan's entire domestic weapons program. The CCP has always argued that Taiwan's democracy is too dysfunctional to defend itself. The opposition just made their case.

Feminists showing up strong today at one of the worst times for British Jews in history. Not a terrorist triangle or Iranian Regime flag in sight at this show of solidarity against Jew hatred. Very proud of these women. 🫡🫡🫡🇮🇱🎗️ Stark contrast to those @FiLiA_charity feminists who marched alongside both (and therefore against Jews) recently because it was easier and more “popular”. They carry that shame forever. Well done to everyone who attended today. We couldn’t be there today but me and @LightninLex will continue to pressure the fascist Jew haters wherever we can. Be warned - you’ll never know when we are coming, we will be loud, creative and we will continue to shame you. We know where we stand and it is with Jews. Never again is now.

Ed Davey got a bad reception at today’s Rally Against Antisemitism. I assume it’s because he wasn’t right-wing enough for the crowd — mostly the same people who turn out for anti-Iran and pro-Israel protests.
