@IsabelWebster_ It's not just Farmers the IHT affects, it's all family run small businesses. I work for a small family business, I am the only one outside of the family who works there. My job could be at serious risk if they have to save money and sell off assets.

@MartinSLewis I have a smart meter and just keep getting estimated bills every month, then get a random bill reversing all of the charges and putting me £100's in credit. According to the estimates bills they think I'm using nearly 500kwh of gas in a month, I don't even use that in a year!

This should not happen. As long as you did everything right - meter readings when requested etc. Energy firms CANNOT back bill more than 12 months ago. Make a formal complaint and if they don't agree, take them to the Energy Ombudsman

@MartinSLewis Should go back to the original way...charge per adult in a household, that would make it so much fairer for single households or couples.

Reports out that the govt hasn't ruled out ending the 25% single person council tax discount. Clearly this would be a painful hit for single adults and single parent families, but also 1) What about the similar reduction for Severe Medical Impairments? Someone with an SMI doesn't count for council tax purposes, so if as is common they live with another adult, there's an 25% reduction equivalent to the single person reduction. Surely they're not going to end the reduction for these vulnerable people too? 2) Substantial council tax changes shouldn't be done without a rebanding. Up to 400,000 homes are in the wrong band because we still rely in Eng & Scot on a stop-gap temporary valuation done in 1991 to dictate what bands people are in. If such a big change comes, surely there should be even more emphasis on ensuring that people are in the right band and not overpaying.

@GMB If that's the case then the system should be changed to charge per person in a household, giving single people a potential increased discount.

Sir Keir Starmer has failed to rule out scrapping the 25% council tax discount for people who live alone. If the reduction is abolished some people in single households could see their bills going up by hundreds of pounds a year.

@MartinSLewis I has a reply from Santander saying they couldn't find my agreement, so I supplied them with the information again. Agreement only ended in 2022, so unsure why they couldn't find the information. That was 2nd Apr, I emailed again on 7th May, still no response.
