@Littleton4Bikes

Littleton's streets are designed and optimized for cars, not people. We need to encourage other modes of transportation and make better streets that are safe.

Littleton Blvd and Broadway if we made it look more like this 😍. 10 ft of sidewalk, 5 ft of planted space, 10 ft of bicycle path, 5 ft of bike parking/buffer. Business would increase on those roads. Think of how much car parking it would take to store those bikes.

I love this bus station in Hawaii. They create a safe space for people with places to sit down and even congregate. Contrast this to some of the worst bus stops in Littleton where there is no place to sit and no space was made for people. #MoreSpaceForHumans

Broadway has a little slice of this, but sadly, a little slice does not enable people to feel safe during their entire trip. We need people to feel safe during their entire trip in order for them to ditch their cars for bikes.

It would reduce car traffic, bring people better health outcomes by active transport, reduce maintenance costs on a significant portion of the road, reduce pollution, enable people to travel cheaply (especially impactful for low income people), and make our city more livable.

I want to see this type of reimagined street all over Littleton. Speed bumps are far less effective at slowing people down than narrow roads. We can give more space to kids, the elderly, and the disabled on our sidewalks and make our streets more safe.

@JCRiecke Brighton Blvd may be the closest Denver has gotten to a full-scale bike ped prioritization - sadly no vision on how to connect it to a usable system, and they totally botched the concrete for the bike lanes.

Someone just posted on my neighbourhood message board that they were very much against #bike lanes but just cycled on the new lanes downtown and now take everything back and are a fan. It's happening people!

I’d love to see a Main Street and Littleton Blvd that looks more like the bicycle and pedestrian focused city block.

Amsterdam’s plan to remove 11,200 parking spaces from its streets by the end of 2025 is even more inspiring when we realize the kind of people places that are possible where cars used to be. Example — #Amsterdam’s Elandsgracht between 2014 & 2019, via @schlijper’s great pics.

We constantly talk about how kids “these days” need to get less screen time and more outdoor time. But by building cities for cars, we’ve systematically robbed them of the ability to do so. A cycling city is a child-friendly city. Video by @Streetfilms: youtu.be/5APjiZz_XCY
