Due to anticipated challenges caused by icy conditions and potential power outages, the University of Georgia will be closed on Monday, January 26. All in-person classes, campus events and activities will be canceled throughout the day. This morning I spoke directly with state agency heads as we leave no stone unturned in preparing Georgia for the winter storm. Help road crews and first responders do their jobs by staying home and hunkering down.

Last week, I became a father.  It may be cliché, but in between the dirty diapers, late night feedings, and the newest claim updates from our health insurance provider, I am amazed at how a new child brings into focus life’s priorities, brings forth gratitude, and further inspires my optimism. I am thankful to my strong and beautiful wife who gracefully brought our son into this world and the team of physicians who cared for her and led her through it. Our experience with Northside Hospital was exceptional. Our son’s birth crystallizes my commitment to work for his future— to improve our communities, our state, and our country to give him the life that my parents worked hard to provide for me while instilling in me principles of servant leadership and personal responsibility. At approximately 8:45 pm the UGA Police Department Communications Center received a call of a shooter in the area of the UGA Library.  Officers quickly responded and searched the area.  A preliminary investigation suggests the event was a hoax, but officers remain in the vicinity to investigate and collect information.  Please stay away from the area.
