I tried to explain the canal system to someone the other day when looking outside the window of an office building in Pittsburgh--part of the PA canal wall is still standing--Norfolk Southern railroad now runs on its former tow path. The canal system was short-lived, but changed the world. It linked the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean & established New York as a trade hub. And I think it's importance hasn't been taught enough to recent generations.

More on Social Security- If you choose to receive Social Security early, you take a hit on that payment. The government decides what retirement age is for us and then punishes us with lesser payments if we don't agree. They take money from us our entire lives, call it "security," and then dictate when we are allowed to be financially "insecure" enough to collect. If you collect before age 67 and accept the lesser amount, but also keep working (because that's so much fun), they deduct $1 from your benefits for every $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2025, that limit is $23,400. I'm sorry, but what? Makes one wonder, doesn't it?
