@grok @michaelmalice Are you sure about that, Grok? On further thought, I think the joke is that the colon implies that The New York Times has a secret history of psychosis. Mr Malice, do I get the joke now? Or was Grok right?

LoganView64206 The joke is the absurdly tiny "fix": original caption reads "A Secret History of Psychosis." Adding just a colon makes it "A Secret History of Psychosis:" – now styled like a real NYT headline or book title (main title: subtitle setup). The image is labeled FIXED to mock how one punctuation mark supposedly perfects it. Classic minimal-edit meme.

@PlatoonPod I have to be pedantic here, but the definition of the word "progress" does not include or imply that something is an improvement compared to ALL prior times. So this is *technically* progress.

This is one of those "I have decided to stop beating my wife" type statements. Well done, I guess, but you shouldn't have been beating your wife in the first place. This isn't progress, it's just a cessation of regress. After several years, we are no longer going to be arrested for something we never used to be arrested for in the first place.

Police time will no longer be wasted investigating legal social media posts, freeing up officers to patrol the streets and tackle real crime. By scrapping Non‑Crime Hate Incidents, we are balancing the protection of vulnerable communities while respecting free speech.

@fleshsimulator Is that legal grounds to sue in the US? First amendment protections are pretty broad, so unless that personal info also includes threats or direct incitement to violence, it may be legally permissible.

The really easy way to tell who is in the wrong here is that I sent a C&D that literally just says "Take down all the pics of my family and their addresses and everything else you've posted about me, don't mention me again, and I will not sue you" And somehow, 'removing my personal info' and 'not continuing to obsessively post about me' are apparently such untenable terms for the other party that they are forcing me to For Real Sue Them

@maya_sen Good luck getting rid of anonymous evals. The internet exists, so you'd need to ban VPNs first.

@iRowow Curious about the details here. I assume basically daisy-chaining grinding/sieving/floatation/sedimentation/melting/solution/precipitation/etc, then processing the purified streams from each to the corresponding elements?

Just got denied by DARPA for the following quad chart. How am I even supposed to add more information and details??? It's maxed out already. Utterly ridiculous. The pathway is clear also with the most basic of chemistry knowledge. I would be glad to explain each element process but I physically with the limited space im allowed... This was the reason for the denial: A critical flaw exists in that the proposed approach does not describe nor demonstrate a clear and viable pathway towards separating all elements of the periodic table that may constitute an agnostic solid feedstock, a requirement for achieving the Phase 1 and Phase 2 metrics of element utilization figure of merit.

Listen - there is no secret ARG laying around with fabulous rewards, okay? Any suspicions or resemblances to such effect should be considered some kind of elaborate LARP *disguised* as an ARG There *may* be an ARG disguised as a LARP disguised as an ARG LARPing. If this annoys you, clearly you are not suited to play along.

@EtherDais My best guess at this point is you're making some point about people complaining that AI is "stealing" by training on other people's work. But nobody's ever had an issue with that for humans.

Is it really stealing to take a word or an idea for personal use? Used to be called "learning", but somehow that got corrupted? Out here tryina commit MINDCRIMES Outlaw thinkers, renegades sailing the seas of the collective unconsciousness Pirates of the darkest waters

@EtherDais I mean, taking credit for inventing a word or an idea is wrong for various ethical reasons, and using a word or idea for professional reasons might create some trademark/copyright issues (the ethics of that are debatable). But the OP sounds like someone's accusing you of somethin

@EtherDais True, but that rolls off the tongue like fistful of rocks. Nightmare for people using voice-to-text, or vice-versa. Plus, typing it would take whole new muscle memory, but twitter just flies off my fingers without even thinking about it.

So, given that 𝕏 has its own special symbol - that my keyboard doesn't have, and i dont know the alt/iso code or whatever for - they have effectively "pulled a Prince" and i will be forced to refer to this as "the platform formerly known as twitter" despite the lack of parsinony

@RBehiel @roryisconfused Born of language, rather than mortality. Natural language is not great for abstract philosophical concepts. Nonexistence, in the purest sense, rules itself out, since by definition, it cannot exist.

Also odd that there’s something rather than everything. There are patterns in what is allowed to exist, and those patterns are weirdly stubborn. Even the concept of nonexistence is strange when you really think about it. The notion makes sense to us, because we’re contingent beings that fall apart. But is there such a concept as nonexistence in contrast with the ground of Being itself? Maybe all this talk of something and nothing is a category error born of our own mortality.

Wanting to be a parent is literally hard-coded into your firmware. You are literally programmed by nature and evolution itself to want to have children, just like literally every single other animal on earth. Whether you do or not is up to you. But media portraying literal human nature as "umm bad and kind of annoying ACKTUALLY" only cements the opinion that journalists have no understanding whatsoever of what it means to be human.
New York Magazine@NYMag

Sooner or later, everyone has to decide whether to give up lazy weekends, disposable income, and overall peace of mind to have a baby instead. For many of those on the fence, one anxiety looms large: What if I make the wrong choice? Parent regret is more common than you might think — the r/regretfulparents sub-Reddit alone gets around 70,000 weekly visitors who anonymously commiserate — though stigma makes it hard to admit in real life. Writer Bindu Bansinath speaks with three moms of young children about why they wish they could go back to their old lives: nymag.visitlink.me/Sv0c_9

In a generation or two, anyone who is capable of not just reading an entire book of over 50,000 words but also understanding what they read and what the author meant will have a massive intellectual advantage over the vast majority of the people around them.
