An exciting finding! (species ID confirmed with DNA test)

This little bat is a Kuhl's pipistrelle, the 1st record for Norfolk! It was found trapped in an industrial unit in Great Yarmouth. No injuries just underweight & very thirsty, so after a few days TLC with one of our bat carers it will shortly be released back at the coast.

@SteveBats @NorwichBats @_BCT_ Hi Steve, definitely a barbastelle (appreciate not obvious from this photo/angle/lighting) - was taken in by a very experienced bat carer who has worked extensively with barbs.

It’s happened again ☹️ Rare barbastelle bat taken to bat carer in Norfolk & Norwich Bat Group this week - hit by a car & didn’t survive. Road schemes like proposed Norwich Western Link, which would pass through internationally important barbastelle area, are major threat. @_BCT_

Also… excellent new research presented at @_BCT_ National Bat Conference by @KezOmalley, who recorded barbastelle flight trajectories across roads and showed >half were in vehicle collision zone 😬🦇🚗 #Traffication @Alauda123 @MathewsFiona @ConservEvidence
