@StephNoh @Doug_Thonus I get why NBA heads would want to believe this but I think the NBA is far from a meritocracy. Landing a Wemby at the top of the draft or even a Jokic or Draymond in the second round is far more the result of good fortune than being smart. Being the smartest GM doesn’t go so far.

I agree that all he has to do is hire the right person, but I don't think the job will sell itself to the very best candidates.
This was illuminating. NBA is a zero sum environment. It's not good enough to have a smart GM when everyone else is smarter. They're putting themselves out of the running for that person.

@jthome21 I think the extra reliever is because they’re worried they can’t cover enough innings to get through games. The opener is bad in this regard because it tends to limit a reliever to one inning.
