I'm losing track of the tech fun facts that I want to find again in the future. So I'm starting a thread. Just for me. But you're welcome as well. #ff stands for funfact

girl obvi my point is that every reach toward another person getting treated as a nuisance or performative will rot community ! u can hate it / decline / u can walk away but mocking this is a social habit that contributes to the erosion of our already hyperindividual world!!!

look over at the baby who is playing on the floor he has a string in his mouth I go to remove it, attracting the attention of the toddler I pull the saliva-drenched string out of the baby's fat little hand; toddler shrieks for it, convinced that whatever the baby just had is some priceless treasure I hand it to the toddler; children must learn their own lessons about mimetic desire he grimaces and drops it on the floor, and gives me a look of contempt "wet. yucky. noooo. ☹️" exactly, buddy. yucky. will he generalize from this experience? absolutely not. but I have played my part correctly according to my own judgement, and am satisfied.

Those who are more cerebrally gifted should be even more mindful of this, for while your psyche may fool you into believing that minimising time, energy, and feeling is wise, it is often paradoxical in effect as uncomfortable emotions are meant to be somatically moved through, not cognitively overcome. There is nuance to this, for marinating in rumination without courage and with subconscious resistance is not the answer either, and most cannot tell the difference when they are amidst it all. Sit with and honour the negative emotions so that your body does not carry them for any longer than it needs to. Feel them with full force and unabashed dignity so that they are released into the ether and are not stored covertly in your body as tension, which is detrimental to your long-term health. That is what true self-honouring actually is.
Nicholas Fabiano, MD@NTFabiano

Emotional suppression is associated with an earlier death.

@paulg The sad thing is that this has remained true everywhere in the world EXCEPT San Francisco SF has become so full of people LARP-ing as nerds / founders that even the true nerds feel a need to exert superiority (how much raised, who from, etc.) / point out social errors in others

Even though nerds are socially awkward, its actually easier to hang out with them than with smooth people, because standards are lower. You don't worry that you might be making social errors; all of you always are; so it stops mattering.

the terrifying reality is that everyone on here is by definition at least a tiny bit interested and invested in reading and/or writing. this is where the people who enjoy text gather. this is where the most literate of us are massed. and it leads to constant arguments

Married to an avoidant. Hung on a long time. I realized that my needs were just... irrelevant. It wasn't malice (mostly), just indifference. Also all strengths were turned into flaws. Getting in shape? Vain. Saving $ for the future? Controlling. Pushing career forward? Slacking at home. I felt perpetually confused and off-balance.

@AskYatharth anyway, my biased opinion is that the second you’re trying to “convince” or “trick” someone into meeting your needs, it’s over no one was worth that anxiety and stress

i've been spending more time around babies recently. their faces are SO expressive about this they range from "fully happy, relaxed 😎" to "relaxed, but intent 🤨" to "huh, what's happening? 😯" to something i'll call "alert ☹️"
