I am married with a young daughter, both myself and my husband work. -We are not entitled to housing benefit, or any other benefit for that matter. -We do not get free eye tests, free dental care or free prescriptions. -Our daughter is not entitled to free school meals, or free breakfast clubs, or free wrap around care, no help with her uniform. -We don’t get council tax discount, or any other discount. -We don’t get help with our energy bills, or low cost broadband. -We don’t get help with the cost of going to the cinema, or days out at theme parks. -My daughter is unable to play outside unsupervised, because you have failed to secure our borders and the streets aren’t safe. -If I work more hours, I fall into the higher tax band. Why should someone like me, vote for someone like you? @UKLabour @andyburnham What are you offering my family?

@ColinSpenc4257 This is so true it hurts. My grandfather died when I was 16, but now I'm an adult I wish so badly I had listened properly to his stories of World War II, the campaign in north Africa where he was stationed for a while and paid attention to him speaking of life in those days 💔

An Afghan migrant enters the UK in the back of a lorry in 2020. He claims asylum. He’s granted the right to remain. Fast‑forward: a dog walker is stabbed to death in a “frenzied” knife attack on a suburban street in Uxbridge. The victim, Wayne Broadhurst, 49, had never met his attacker. He was simply walking his dog past the property. Multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest and side; he died at the scene. Now, in court, the refugee pleads manslaughter on grounds of “diminished responsibility” due to a psychotic state – and the prosecution accepts it. So the British state imports the risk, fails to manage it, fails to protect the public, then quietly downgrades the charge when the worst happens. This isn’t an accident; it’s the settled culture of a system more afraid of upsetting lawyers and NGOs than protecting its own citizens.

Gabriel Clarke is a disgrace by the way. His interviews were intentionally trying to cause friction in the camp. I don’t understand why the English media are so against the England team.

@JamesMelville They've been doing this for decades - deliberately stoking tensions and trying to make trouble where none exists - and it's pathetic. I hope everyone ignores them and doesn't buy this drivel.

The English media continue to cultivate this non story. Tuchel has been full of praise for the mentality shown by England and Bellingham. Yet they have twisted his comments on the performance of the team because of a reaction by Bellingham which was based without the full knowledge of the full context of what Tuchel actually said after the game v Norway. England have reached the semi finals of the World Cup and yet the media are manipulating a negative narrative of ‘tension’ between Tuchel and Bellingham which is misleading and disingenuous. The media have orchestrated this ‘drama’.

@IamSriSudharsan No, because reading is done using the eyes and listening is done with the ears. But the result is the same, you're still absorbing a story and using your imagination.

I’m trying to think of the greatest British warnings. My favourites include: 1. Watch it. 2. You’re on thin ice. 3. I’ve had just about enough of this.

@AuthorGFAllen My Gran used to read Winnie-the-Pooh to me as a very young child and she would create different voices for each of the characters. I loved those books and I learnt to read very quickly and remained at a reading level way above my age all through school. Love you, Gran 💛

Yes. I read it as a child. Because it’s a children’s book. We keep lowering standards for children’s media and then wonder why kids can’t read or grasp complex concepts. Running into words you don’t know is part of the learning experience. Not an insurmountable obstacle.
pete@pete_churchill

@bazashc Have you ever read it??? It’s 100% not a children’s book and whoever says that is lying to you. Not only is the vernacular dated and elaborate but the sentence structure and lengthy writing is often hard to get your head around as an adult. Love that book! but it’s not for kids

@Lucy_Edwards07 @BenKentish I got centre court tickets in the ballot this year, it was as good as winning the lottery for me. I agree the rich & famous get enough free stuff let us ordinary folk have more opportunities.

So many random Instagram “influencers” have been handed free tickets to Wimbledon. Give them to NHS workers, veterans and charity heroes instead!

@Madz_Grant Really vile, Madeline. If he was talking in this odious, offensive way about someone from any other group in society he would most likely be sacked. But because it was a woman - an older woman particularly - it doesn't matter and he can get away with it. Rank misogyny.

Adam Boulton talking mean-spiritedly about Ann Widdecombe in front of what looks like a picture of himself. He describes her – a possible murder victim – as a 'spinster', a 'battleaxe', 'a bruiser', an 'old maid', and mentions her virginity, before speculating irresponsibly about her death. Horrible, horrible stuff

"I've been trying my best to speak to people who are close to him" Gary Stevenson, economist, campaigner and host of Gary's Economics on YouTube, says "I've not met Andy Burnham, no, but I'd love to" when asked if it's true he is advising him. #Newsnight

@jamespriceglos @K_Niemietz With a birth rate well below replacement level, we don't need loads more houses. We need to remove many, many people from this country who shouldn't be here.

It’s incredible what happens when you put an actual economist next to this fraud. Well done to @K_Niemietz for demolishing Gary Stevenson’s entire schtick in seconds. Share this video with all your famous and friends. A total masterclass.

My strategy for the England-Mexico match tonight is to go to bed around 9pm, set my alarm for 4am, avoid social media and watch it before going to work. And leave the TV on a channel that won’t flash up the score when I switch it on!
