@LangeAlexandra Truly the best advisor. A towering, intimidating, challenging figure - but also one of the most singularly generous people one could hope to cross paths with. Very saddened by the news but ultimately grateful for the privilege of having had him as a mentor

Shocked and saddened by the death of Jean-Louis Cohen, or JLC as he always was on my calendar. The best dissertation advisor — intimidating and challenging but never trying to make his students in his own image. An unexpected pleasure to ultimately become friends.

@enriqueramirez I am saddened and shocked by the news, but also grateful for the intensely exciting years we were lucky to share with him. JLC was an exceptionally generous mentor to so many of us.

Jean-Louis Cohen has died. This is immensely sad. He was my dissertation adviser, my mentor and champion, and was generous beyond words. I am in shock.

@GergelyOrosz this is ultimately a healthy trend but it is not without tensions - many companies came to naturalize ratios and numbers that were not fundamentally correct or healthy for some time.

Execs and engineers who understand equity RUN from companies where the valuation is overblown several times vs revenue multiples. It sounds cool to raise at $17B valuation on $170M ARR at a 100x multiple… except if you get allocated options, they will be underwater on exit.

@ashleyruba I've seen so much potential for innovation, collaboration and learning lost because of these deeply ingrained biases. Only way to chip away at these is by making alternatives tangible and real

Should I start an bootcamp for architects? 95% joking but only because I am too risk averse/don't have the financial backing to quit everything to start something like that.

There are many people in leadership positions at tech companies that don’t understand: Codebases without the people that wrote the code are just a liability, not an asset.

we never really figured out if androids really do dream of electric sheep however, many products *definitely* dream of themselves as platforms and many platforms dream of themselves as infrastructure we may call this the Blade Runner Principle luismcastaneda.com/blade-runner-p…

This is one of the great approaches to hire engineers with no prior experience: partnering with local bootcamps and hiring in batches, then investing further in these new hires. Hiring and investing in junior engineers is underrated. Well done, @SkyscannerEng!
