During my keynote in Regina this week, the final question in the Q&A addressed Alberta’s recurring debate about leaving Canada—an issue I know well, as someone from Quebec, having seen firsthand the long-term consequences of separatism on families, communities, and economies. My response was straightforward. The decision belongs to Albertans alone. No one else should presume to decide for them. I also stated clearly that Canada is undeniably stronger with Alberta than without it. That said, if Alberta chooses to put the fundamental question to its citizens, it should do so decisively, respect the outcome, and move forward. Quebec paid a significant price for allowing the issue to linger for decades—capital flight, population loss, and deep social fractures followed. Uncertainty is costly. Whatever path is chosen, prolonged ambiguity is the worst outcome.

On apprenait cette semaine que le fédéral a gaspillé 6,6 milliards dans un projet informatique. Et c’est 85 000 aînés qui ne reçoivent pas leur chèque de pension à cause des ratés de ce nouveau fiasco informatique coûteux à Ottawa. C’est un cafouillage près de six fois pire que celui du fiasco SAAQclic. Les Québécois vont d'ailleurs payer leur part de cette facture salée. Et ce gaspillage éhonté de l’argent des Québécois s’inscrit dans une lignée de scandales couteux du fédéral. Pensons à Phénix, ArriveCAN, les chèques de PCU, WE Charity, McKinsey, etc. C’est bel et bien au fédéral qu’il y a le plus de gaspillage.
