That was a good way to end LOVE STORY, with poetry - and apparently her mother did read that at their funeral. "Death Is Nothing at All" by Henry Scott-Holland

Career civil servant and China expert aggressively cross examined by Liberal MP who seemingly believes if you haven’t witnessed the labour camps in Xinjiang, they simply don’t exist. For those doubting @M_Johnston1’s credentials, here they are: “Board director at the China Strategic Risks Institute. Spent nearly 40 years in the public service, including as the executive vice president of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and sat on the Canada-China Joint Committee on Science and Technology. She also served as an assistant deputy minister who oversaw three federal government labs and can speak basic Mandarin.” Shameful.
Harrison Faulkner@Harry__Faulkner

WATCH: Hong Kong-born Canadian MP Michael Ma tells a career civil servant that claims of forced labour in Xinjiang, China, are "hearsay" and blatantly defends the CCP. Ma: Have you witnessed forced labour in Xinjiang? Yes or no? Witness: I work closely with Human Rights Watch, where researchers did witness it.

@helenlewis great meditation. A lot of former "most successful Millennial feminists": Daniel MO Lavery, Nicole Cliffe, Lena Dunham, Anne Helen Peterson. Glad tho that Anna Holmes now writes for the Atlantic; she's always interesting. Wonder if she commented on the LW promo hurricane.

I’ve written about the backlash to Adult Braces: “I do feel great sympathy for Lindy West. How was she to know that the great omertà of Millennial Feminism—that we had to take whatever people said about their life stories at face value—had broken?”

@KeldenFormosa just listened to the gambling episode on @DKThomp's Plain English... I had no idea how ubiquitous online betting has become. Members of the Trump administration betting on foreign affairs decisions hours before they make them is unreal x.com/mckaycoppins/s…

Loved this conversation with @DKThomp, one of the best in the business. Even if you've already read my gambling piece or heard me talk about it in other interviews, I think you'll find this one interesting.

It's funny how Canada influencing the Scottish euthanasia vote hasn't made more press here. Usually we love being noticed!

While advocating for more homes, I've been told many times that young Canadians need to get used to renting apartments. That it's the norm in Europe. But our apartments are nothing like European family-sized apartments. We explain why on this week's DemograFix. 1/3

Was only a matter of time before the Carol Shields Prize nom went to a guy who IDs as she/her. Surprised actually that it took them this long.

I think it's bad for Members of Parliament to earn half a million dollars selling sensitivity training services to the government, especially when they are already paid about $200,000/year.
Jonathan Kay@jonkay

Lori Idlout, the floor-crossing NDP caucus member, has been a prominent supporter of mandatory indigenous sensitivity training for the Cdn civil service In 2023, it was disclosed that she was a sole-source government contractor selling ….
