@farzyness Don’t they have a partnership with nuro and lucid? what’s the difference that Waymo is building their own software because they also have to buy the vehicles there not building them. The biggest winner in the robotaxi industry will be Tesla they don’t depend on anyone

Brilliant move by Waymo. Uber is a dead company in the age of autonomy - for many different reasons. When self-driving companies reach big enough scale, Uber is a POINTLESS partner, because their network is inherently INCAPABLE of competing with driverless vehicles, because the cost of paying a driver is 60%+ of the total cost per mile of transport. Why give Uber your fleet when you can use your own and DESTROY Uber on price?
Sawyer Merritt@SawyerMerritt

Waymo is considering ending its partnerships with Uber. The relationship between the two companies has soured amid an intense lobbying battle over rollout of autonomous vehicles. Uber has recently been lobbying to try and slow down the rollout of autonomous vehicles. Waymo vehicles in Austin and Atlanta are currently available only on Uber.

@TheWiseIC But uber is starting there own robotaxi with lucid. It’s the same strategy that Waymo is using it’s not like they build their own vehicles this is only where the biggest threat is Tesla and no one else they build their own vehicles and software.

While $UBER has been a big disappointment in my portfolio (~ 10% down and 5% position) I’m still bullish on the company. But there’s a big caveat that I feared I didn’t have to endure now. And it’s not just from today’s headline. For me this goes beyond a headline, it’s starting to underpin their entire AV strategy. The strategy was onboard partners and keep them in need of Ubers demand aggregation. If Waymo with 4,000 cars is able to suffice their own customers on their own network what does it take for other AV operators to scale? So you have a somewhat real risk here where an AV company uses Uber to scale and then leaves. So the asset light argument Uber management has made is starting to crack. In no world does Uber exist without owning the supply in some form. So that’s going to surprise FCF spike CapEx in the short run. It’s turning into a completely different business from when I bought it. Great company but I think Uber management dropped the ball with letting Waymo cut ties so soon before Uber has any other meaningful AV partners at scale. Luckily it’s already dirt cheap so I am not sure how much more the market will punish it. 2.5x revenue and mid teens EPS multiple with a near 8% FCF yield. Definitely not a business that’s going away anytime soon because of their scale but I would be a total fool to sit here and say Uber has done a great job on navigating this transition. I’m hoping to hear words of encouragement on the next call. The mobility side is starting to raise a lot of question marks and autonomy barely exists yet.

$UBER market cap is now $134B, they have approx $2-3B of net debt and they're expected to generate $8-10B of FCF through year end... we'll just call that $126B enterprise value assuming the stock price stays flat for the next 5+ months. $WAYMO (owned by Google) just raised a $16B funding round earlier this year at a $126B valuation. $UBER has approximately 10,000,000 drivers and couriers across 15,000 cities $WAYMO has approx 4,000 robotaxis across 12 cities Over the next 12 months.. $UBER is expected to do $65B of revenues $WAYMO is expected to do $1B of revenues It's kind of crazy these two companies now have the same valuation... $UBER trading at 2x NTM revs while $WAYMO raised capital at more than 350x ARR (they were reportedly doing $350M revs in Q1) but it goes to show that investors are focused on the future and who will win the robotaxi race. Clearly there's some Waymo investors willing to pay a hefty multiple whereas the market has turned sour on Uber given the lack of details around their robotaxi strategy and the possibility they begin losing market share. I'm not an Uber shareholder so please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they have ~20 robotaxi (AV) partners including Rivian, Lucid, Nuro, AVride, Zoox, Nissan, Stellantis, etc Uber has made strategic investments into several of them... some of which are already doing pilot programs across the US and maybe Europe but we still don't have real details on the timelines or economics for bigger robotaxi deployments through $UBER. $UBER has 200+ million customers so they're the top dog in distribution and should be the leader in robotaxi deployments but they need to get their act together and start making things happen because it seems like Waymo and Tesla won't be waiting around. I've taken a Waymo before and loved it. I'm hoping to take a Tesla Cybercab this weekend in Miami. I've been using Uber for many years and it's a great service but I'm still excited for them to roll out robotaxis in Boston, NYC and Miami (where I spend most of my time) especially if it brings the prices down. *We have no position in $UBER or $GOOG at @FirstWaveFund Please feel free to share your thoughts on $UBER or robotaxis. I find this debate very interesting because I honestly don't know who the winner will be over the next 5+ years.

$UBER x Waymo I read through the report and all the panic around the supposed breakup between Uber and Waymo. Here’s what is actually confirmed: “An Uber spokesperson said Waymo has given notice that it plans to launch service through its own app in those cities in January 2028 alongside their existing deployment with Uber.” This confirms that Waymo plans to add its own app after the Uber in Austin and Atlanta exclusivity deal agreed expires. It does not confirm that the overall partnership is ending. Honestly, this shouldn’t surprise anyone. Exclusivity agreements are almost always temporary. Waymo already operates through both its own app and Lyft in Phoenix. Why wouldn’t Waymo want to build its own consumer brand while also expanding distribution through partners? That has always seemed like the logical long term strategy. Dominos, Starbucks, Mcdonald’s, all do the same with Uber Eats and DoorDash. What remains unconfirmed is whether Uber and Waymo will continue working together after the current agreement expires in mid 2028 (you shouldn’t be shocked that contracts have expiration dates 😆). Financial Times appears to have uncovered when the exclusivity period ends. Everything beyond that, including reports of “tensions” between the companies basically just means they are negotiating. Waymo makes Uber unhappy due to driving past bus stops, Uber makes Waymo unhappy for routing Waymo’s to cul de sacs. Normal tensions during partnerships. If, two years from now, Uber and Waymo announce they are ending the partnership entirely, then I agree that would be a much more meaningful development. By then, Uber expects to have expanded autonomous rides across dozens of cities through partnerships with Nvidia, Volkswagen, Lucid, Nuro, May Mobility, Pony AI, WeRide, and others. The company has repeatedly said it wants to be the platform that aggregates autonomous supply rather than relying on a single partner. As for me, I still expect $UBER to trade closer to $80 after August earnings if the broader market cooperates. Think in 5 to 10 year time horizons. Don’t let every headline shake your conviction. Waymo’s own statement: “We believe in a vibrant and collaborative AV ecosystem that champions innovation and provides riders with a choice in how they experience this technology.” That’s it folks in terms of confirmed statements. $AAPL keeps making new highs while the rest of tech gets smoked because they’re the least overleveraged and the most insulated from the AI spending frenzy. Everyone else is doing offerings, reporting delays, and trying to convince investors their massive AI spend will eventually pay off. Meanwhile $AAPL is doing what they’ve always done best… Being patient

Hollywood should be studying ROI as much as raw box office. Obsession: $750k budget → $427M worldwide (600x return) Backrooms: $10m budget → $363M worldwide (36x return) Meanwhile: Supergirl: $250m budget → $110M worldwide (so far but declining) Numbers don’t lie. It’s not about how much money you spend or which major celebrities you have in movies. Tell good stories and entertain.

@TheBronxViking The sad part is these people could end up in charge if Republicans don’t get serious about the cost of living and unnecessary conflicts. It’s hard to ignore corporations blaming inflation while posting record profits year after year.

NVIDIA was $10 in 2022. Palantir was $8 in 2023. Both went up 20x times. While everyone’s buying the same popular tech stocks… There are 5 companies that nobody talks about, but could hit similar returns as NVIDIA & Palantir. Here's what they are:🧵

Today, I’m releasing never before seen intelligence revealing new evidence of past US government funding for more than 120 biolabs in over 30 countries, including Ukraine. In support of President Trump‘s Executive Order to end federal funding of dangerous gain of function research around the world, and increase transparency and accountability, ODNI will continue working with partners across the Administration to identify where these labs are, what pathogens they contain, and what “research” is being conducted. odni.gov/index.php/news…

I noticed something when looking over charts this weekend.... Right now $QQQ is sitting at a daily RSI of 82.83 and is 14.50% above its 50 day simple moving average. I went back to see if there some similar setups and examples to this, and what the results were after. Here were some of the most recent. 1. June-July of 2024 before the "Yen Carry Trade" and the market dropped 16% in 17 days before pushing higher. 2. November-December of 2023 when Yellen basically put QE back on the table after the sweep of the summer. Market then pulled back 5% before resuming higher. 3. September of 2020- after the massive post COVID rally Q was almost 20% above it's 50 day average before experiencing a 14% pullback before pushing higher. The big things I was looking for was a extended rsi (Like 80 plus on the daily), and a large percentage away from the 50 day (blue line). History would say this is a time for concern, not euphoria. Yes, I've always said I believe the market resolves higher, but piling in here is a recipe for disaster. Not necessarily on the long term, but the short term. I think there will be a very buyable dip, but it's not here yet. I think most likely is a dip, then a new high with bearish rsi, followed by a much larger dip. I don't care what the narrative is, only what the chart shows me.
