Ultimately, this is why multi-generational homes can't work in the modern West. Parents don't view that arrangement as a transfer of estate wealth to heirs they view it as levers of control to keep their children 14 forever.

My 20 y/o daughter and my wife got in a huge fight yesterday. Wife ends the conversation by demanding daughter turn her phone in and sending her to her room without dinner. My son to my other daughter: “She’s 20. I don’t even know if what happened is legal.”

@FloodedRealms Multi-generational homes work fine in "the west" when 20 year olds don't argue with their parents or grandparents like children.
In any functional home there is a hierarchy of authority and the youngest is NEVER at the top or equal to anyone.

Upper-middle-class families are in a weird dead zone with college.
They make too much to qualify for meaningful financial aid, but not enough to casually write $100,000 checks every year without it completely changing their life.
So the kid looks rich on paper, gets little help, and the parents are expected to absorb the cost of a house down payment every single year.
College pricing has also obviously become absurd.

@financedystop If you make $400k a year then four one time $100k expenses should be easily affordable.
Imagine the horrors they must suffer and sacrifices they have to endure. They might have to delay their 6 month European vacation or downsize their 3rd home on the intercostal. Hard choices.

In my experience, Snapchat usage is one of the biggest divides between coastal city America and the rest of America
Snap is still EVERYWHERE in small towns (to the point where people open it just for the archives) whereas college-ed urbanites seem to have ditched it entirely
