It was great to see community curiosity in action at the MineralsEd Community Fair at Creekside Community Centre this week. MABC’s President & CEO, @goehring_m joined over 600 school kids - some travelled from as far as Chilliwack. It was inspiring to connect with educators and future innovators learning more about BC’s mining sector. ⛏️ Thanks to MineralsEd, Jason Courneya, all volunteers and the mining industry for bringing hands-on learning to the community! #bcminingmonth #miningmonth #bcmining

The Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals hosted the 64th annual Mine Safety Awards in Victoria. MABC was proud to sponsor and attend this event to honour the winners as the safest mining operations in the province. This year’s winners included multiple @amrize sites (& the Mine Safety Technology Award), @ConumaResources’ Brule Mine (the Stewart O’Brian Award), @ConumaResources’ Willow Creek Mine (the Edward Prior Award), and @CoeurMining’s New Afton Mine (Large Underground Mines Award). Established in 1961, the Mine Safety Awards recognize the safety accomplishments of mines throughout BC. The awards reflect BC’s commitment to a strong health and safety culture in mining and our collective commitment to protect workers and continuously improve mine safety. Protecting the health and safety of workers is by far our industry’s highest priority. #bcmining #miningmonth #bcminingmonth

⚒️@finningcanada plays a key role in supporting mining operations connected to Metro Vancouver. Headquartered in Surrey, Finning supplies, services, and supports the heavy equipment that keeps mines across British Columbia and beyond operating safely and efficiently. While mining happens in regions like the Interior and the North, the economic activity it generates boosts Metro Vancouver’s economy and creates jobs. 27% of Finning’s employees who live in Metro Vancouver or on Vancouver Island work at mining sites—this number has nearly doubled since 2021. The variety of shift schedules and diverse mining-related roles make it possible for employees to live in coastal communities while supporting operations at sites owned by mines where Finning has onsite and field technicians including @NewmontCorp, @CenterraGold and @ConumaResources. Finning supplies over 15 BC mines with haul trucks, dozers, wheel loaders, shovels, drills, underground equipment, and technology. Their technicians build new equipment on site, repair, remanufacture, and complete full rebuilds of equipment to like-new conditions. In BC alone, this generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue per year in parts, service, and equipment sales. Northern BC mining was front and centre at @MineralsNorth in Smithers last week. MABC President & CEO, @goehring_m delivered a keynote speech that highlighted the immense scale and potential of northern mining activity, the infrastructure builds underway, and the deep network of northern mine suppliers and services that support the sector. He concluded that continuing to improve permitting, addressing the uncertainty with DRIPA, and advancing skills training will turn today’s momentum into more projects, more jobs, and more economic growth and prosperity. Michael also moderated a panel on building sustainable and resilient mining supply chains, with perspectives from Bandstra Transportation Systems Ltd. @SeabridgeInc's KSM Project, Bear Claw Industries Inc., and @ruggededge1999. It was a practical conversation about the transportation, industrial services, and regional partnerships that help keep mining moving in the North. Northern BC is already helping drive BC’s mining economy. The priority now is making sure that momentum turns into more projects, more jobs, and more long-term growth. #BCMining #NorthernBC #MineralsNorth #MiningSupplyChain #CriticalMinerals #bcpoli #BCMiningMonth #MiningMonth

Mining is to Vancouver what oil and gas is to Calgary. A new Mining and Metro Vancouver Economic Impact Study from MABC highlights the industry’s significant and growing role in the region’s economy. Key findings: 🔹 Mining powers British Columbia’s economy 🔹Mining supports jobs and strengthens local economies across Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island 🔹 Future mine development presents major economic opportunities for BC With 22% of all mining-related employment based in Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island, Metro Vancouver is a global hub for mining activity. Structural Wear Products in Pitt Meadows has been supplying @HudbayUS's Copper Mountain Mine near Princeton for five years with impact-resistant steel (Quard 450/500s, LIGER CCO) for their haul truck boxes, shovel backwalls, and dozer blade liners leading to increased production at the mine site. In 2025, Structural Wear partnered with Copper Mountain and @SMSEquipmentInc to recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day by painting a rebuilt truck body orange as a visible, day-to-day reminder of the importance of that recognition. This  demonstrates that the Lower Mainland isn’t just a corporate hub — it’s a place where essential mining equipment actually gets made. From purchasing to employment, much of what Structural Wear delivers goes back into the local  economy, supporting more than 12,300 jobs in Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Hudbay's Copper Mountain Mine recently received key permit amendments for the New Ingerbelle expansion project, which means more than 800 jobs will be sustained, while contributing an estimated $11.5 billion to provincial GDP and fostering long-term regional economic stability. On Tuesday, May 5, MABC President & CEO @goehring_m delivered the annual keynote at the @BoardofTrade event. Michael highlighted new figures from MABC’s Economic Impact Study showing that in 2024 alone, BC’s mining sector generated $19.6 billion in economic output, supported 56,000 jobs, and contributed nearly $6 billion in government revenue. Those numbers point to an industry with real economic weight. With 18 mines and two smelters operating today, mining is already boosting BC’s economy and supporting communities. That momentum is now carrying into major project development. The message was clear: BC has real mining opportunity in front of us, but capturing it will require a more predictable permitting system and policy environment. As Michael said, “We need clarity, we need certainty. Investment hates uncertainty.” Read the coverage from @mining: mining.com/mining-associa… #BCMining #EconomicImpact #CriticalMinerals #bcpoli #BCMiningMonth #MiningMonth

A strong reminder that mining’s impact in BC extends far beyond mine sites. As highlighted in this @VancouverSun article, the mining sector plays a critical role in supporting jobs, businesses, and economic activity in urban centres like Vancouver—through a vast network of suppliers, services, and expertise. MABC President & CEO @goehring_m notes that mining is increasingly a key driver of economic activity across the province, with benefits that reach communities well beyond where mines are located. From engineering and finance to environmental services and technology, mining continues to support a diverse and growing ecosystem that contributes to BC’s economic resilience. Industrial Equipment Manufacturing (@iem_ca) is a key part of BC’s mining supply chain, providing engineering, fabrication, machining, and assembly to BC mines. IEM is currently building conveyors for @SkeenaGoldSilv’s Eskay Creek Project in Tahltan Territory, in Northwest BC and is a part of the BC mining supply chain that contributes over $3.5 billion in economic activity to Metro Vancouver. Skeena shifted fabrication back to BC from an overseas contractor to speed up timelines, simplify coordination, and allow pre-assembly in Surrey — delivering better overall value. The IEM contract is worth about $10M. This partnership shows that Metro Vancouver isn’t just a corporate centre—it’s where real mining equipment is built. Eskay Creek recently secured its provincial and federal approvals and represents a $713M capital investment that will create more than 1,000 jobs in BC.
