Meet “Gracie” on International Dog Day. She’s a rescue from near Shanghai, China and joined us last October. She is doing really well and loves life in Canada!

This is the most important, most brilliant, and most well written thing you could read today. If you’re an Albertan, or a Canadian, and read nothing else, fine. Just read this. Goodness me. Every word. readtheline.ca/p/clarke-ries-…

Remember how everyone used to hate oil and gas in Canada, and now they don’t? I think that will happen with metallurgical coal. Canada’s 2nd biggest mineral export, essential for steel, and in high demand from Asian allies: EU, USA and India have declared it a critical mineral. It’s time we did too. macdonaldlaurier.ca/canadian-coal-…

This is bonkers, worth reading because if the implications. A First Nation bought into Rockford, a regular private power company in 2023, after BC Hydro’s standard renewal terms were already public knowledge. Now they’re in court arguing their Indigenous status entitles them to the higher rates BC Hydro reserves for brand new Indigenous-owned projects. They entered a commercial venture with eyes open, and are now using constitutional consultation rights to extract a better price. This is what DRIPA has created - weaponized litigation to renegotiate commercial contracts after the fact. The courts get clogged. The uncertainty spreads. Investors flee. And ordinary people pay more for electricity. This madness needs to stop.
Fran Yanor@FranYanor

A new DRIPA-related case in BC courts could force BC Hydro to pay more for energy generated by Indigenous-owned power producers, potentially leaving ratepayers on the hook, writes former BC Utilities commissioner Richard Mason for @BeatNorthern northernbeat.ca/opinion/citing…

On Day 3 of my tour through British Columbia’s Golden Triangle, I had the opportunity to meet with Tahltan leadership on Tahltan territory, which sits at the heart of one of the most resource-rich regions on Earth.
Through the Tahltan Nation Development Corporation, the Tahltan are not just participants in resource development — they are major contractors, infrastructure builders, environmental stewards, and workers helping power nation-building projects across Northern BC. Today’s meeting was a reminder that economic development must deliver tangible benefits for the people whose lands these projects sit on, and that we must continue supporting communities where challenges remain around housing, community infrastructure, and social services.

Thank you to Tahltan leadership for the warm welcome, the candid conversation, and the opportunity to continue building a stronger relationship between the Nation and the federal government.

The Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals hosted the 64th annual Mine Safety Awards in Victoria. MABC was proud to sponsor and attend this event to honour the winners as the safest mining operations in the province. This year’s winners included multiple @amrize sites (& the Mine Safety Technology Award), @ConumaResources’ Brule Mine (the Stewart O’Brian Award), @ConumaResources’ Willow Creek Mine (the Edward Prior Award), and @CoeurMining’s New Afton Mine (Large Underground Mines Award). Established in 1961, the Mine Safety Awards recognize the safety accomplishments of mines throughout BC. The awards reflect BC’s commitment to a strong health and safety culture in mining and our collective commitment to protect workers and continuously improve mine safety. Protecting the health and safety of workers is by far our industry’s highest priority. #bcmining #miningmonth #bcminingmonth

Here's the government's national electricity strategy. I know some people are dunking on the feds for entering the electricity fray (not their constitutional lane), but I must say a lot of provincial and territorial utilities have been mismanaged and cannot dig themselves out of their hole without federal $ and are very likely asking for the feds to intervene. We should hold them responsible, but we can't let our electricity systems go into decline. /1 natural-resources.canada.ca/energy-sources…

The BCLeg was not sitting today so MLA's @McInnis_4MLA, @TrevHal, and @LynneBlockMLA and legal expert Thomas Isaac from Cassels, Brock and Blackwell LLP took time out of their busy schedules to meet and share with concerned citizens their thoughts and worries related to DRIPA's impact on BC Land Rights and the Economy. All agreed DRIPA is doing more harm than good to our economy, and how un-investible BC has become. Not to mention the deleterious effect on reconciliation.

Facts: 1. TMX is a government asset whose costs are covered by tolls from O&G producers. It is profitable. 2. Oilsands are not the most expensive barrel anymore, because it’s not 2015. They are generally among the lowest break-even barrels in North America. 3. Oilsands are not the most carbon intensive barrels. They are only 1-3% higher emitting than the average US refinery barrel, and are lower emitting than heavy oil competitors Iraq, California and Venezuela. Sources in thread /1

Is the idea here that we should close the Port of Prince Rupert? We want year round Arctic ports with icebreaking, but somehow Canada’s third largest port is now in waters so perilous we dare not cross? What are we doing here guys.

This is atrocious. Like Peter, I (proudly) have indigenous family through marriage. This is morally indefensible; Conservatives must deal w/the fallout from such words (and resulting stereotypes). Remember, our words remain when leadership races end. Last, family = off limits.

PERSONAL: @PeterMilobar slams @KerryLynneFindl for insinuating that he has a conflict of interest for having an Indigenous wife.
