1) Was getting ready to fire up this post with the bears/FUDsters/poker players turned satellite consultants and supposed D2D enthusiasts recently coming out in full force, but as always $asts pulls the rabbit out of the hat and surprises the market. Instead, wanted to focus on the biggest cheat code in investing- identifying secular trends, winners in that field, and most importantly finding them during their inflection point in their company life cycle. Of course, much easier said than done, but I believe AST is finally there and fulfills all three criteria. These type of companies all have similar characteristics, and if you can capture them during their inflection point, it's a life changing experience for the portfolio

You see this $ASTS 👀while you're obsessing over the size of your arrays (it that a tell?) you're not seeing the competitor sneaking up on you and doing the important stuff that winners are doing. Get with the program and pick a color!

The timing of the JV announcement, days after the FCC approves Echostar/Starlink spectrum transfer, and 60 days before the TMo/Starlink exclusivity period ends 7/2026 is not accidental. The big 3 MNO's are circling the wagons against Starlink Mobile. $ASTS

The carrier JV is triggering a lot of debate. SpaceX President @Gwynne_Shotwell called it "David and Goliath (X3)." @SpaceX fans are saying DOJ will block it as anticompetitive. Let me cut through the noise. SpaceX is a $2 trillion company calling itself David. The three carriers combined are worth $600B. The JV press release explicitly says it will "expand access" and enable "more satellite service providers to compete, invest, and grow." That's the opposite of anticompetitive. SpaceX doesn't need these carriers. They just bought 65 MHz of their own spectrum. The carriers can't block @SpaceX from doing anything. Here's what I expect in coming days: SpaceX fans will flood every $ASTS post with "DOJ will kill this" and "collusion." Elon will likely tweet about it. The X debate gets tribal and loud. Ignore the noise. This month, more JV details will emerge -- which spectrum, which satellite partners, what timeline. $ASTS likely named explicitly as a technology partner. SpaceX public S-1 drops and includes their D2D strategy. The competitive picture gets clearer. What matters: All three carrier CEOs have publicly said they won't do an MVNO with SpaceX. T-Mobile's CFO called SpaceX D2C "low usage, geographically contained." The carriers want an independent partner. That's $ASTS . My suggestion: Don't get pulled into tribal @SpaceX vs $ASTS arguments. The thesis hasn't changed. Two business models. Two TAMs. @SpaceX owns direct-to-consumer. The carrier JV goes through $ASTS . Both markets are massive. Stay focused on the catalysts: BB8-10 launch mid-June, Russell inclusion May 22, SpaceX IPO repricing the sector, and now a carrier JV forming around $ASTS technology. Let X argue. We watch the fundamentals. $ASTS 🛰️

I was trying to understand Tim Farrar’s perspective and realized, he’s right. I just hadn’t opened my eyes. Ways to spot a small market: 1). Largest space company making $20bn acquisition to enter it 2). Largest consumer company making a $11bn acquisition to enter it 3). Almost all of the world’s MNOs scrambling to sign MOUs to provide service 4). US government regulators specifically crafting rules to facilitate and create the market 5). Anyone with spectrum that’s not nailed down to the floor moving to repurpose it to allow for its use in the said market “It’s a small market after all! It’s a small, small market!” $ASTS

$ASTS Loren (Larry) Reed, Spacecraft & Launch Vehicle Engineering, AST SpaceMobile: ** UPDATE Bluebird-7 Satellite Total Loss ** As most have heard by now, the Bluebird-7 Satellite was placed into a lower-than planned orbit due to an issue with the New Glenn upper stage. Contact was established after the satellite powered-on, and engineering data is being obtained. Unfortunately, the on-board propulsion capability of BB-7 is not sufficient to boost it into a suitable orbit, so rather than allow the current orbit to decay unpredictably the satellite will be deorbited deliberately in a controlled manner. Although the fault was not with AST, and the cost of the loss will be covered by insurance, this is still a real “gut punch” for the AST’s production, launch, and payload operations teams, as well as the rest of the company. 😢😢 Despite having delivered engineering support and task team leadership for over a hundred shuttle launches over more than two decades, I can truthfully say that I have NEVER worked SO HARD in my entire life as over the past several months getting BB-7 transported to Florida from Texas, put through the complicated process of test and checkout operations, followed by payload fairing encapsulation at Blue Origin. Long stints of 12-hour-plus days at times to meet a demanding launch processing schedule can sure take a lot out of you. But seeing a spacecraft which YOU and your teammates have poured heart and soul into soar into space is an uplifting experience which makes you forget about all the hard work, sleepless nights, and non-stop frenetic activity it took to make it happen. However, days like today; with such unexpected bad news coming on the heels of what seemed like a wonderful achievement for both payload and launch provider… well, they remind me of some other dark days from my spaceflight career. Thankfully no lives were lost, and the satellite is insured, but so much hard work and effort on the part of the entire AST team is gone now, and with nothing to show for it. “The only easy day was yesterday”. As in many other difficult endeavors, that saying from the Navy Seals often holds true in spaceflight as well. 😢😢 But for the AST team my fervent prayer is that after this unexpected shock is recovered from, there will be better days ahead with more and more Bluebird satellites coming off the production line, and hopefully new launch successes ahead. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 [Note - all graphics are from public-domain materials. $ASTS: AST sold off when SpaceX acquired $SATS and then rebounded to all time highs. It's going to take the market some time to digest the strategic implications. The strategic value of AST SpaceMobile to Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, all MNOs globally, etc has gone up markedly. STAY FOCUSED™️
