Let's all have a moment of silence for Alec Baldwin, who will never stop working because he keeps having kids. He was supposed to be luxuriating on a yacht, not raising seven children.

@BretWeinstein What makes humans forever superior to AI in the trades are not when the perfect work conditions exist but when things aren’t perfect and it requires a quick thinking independent mind and body to complete. AI will never replace a human completely.

@justindeanlee Well, he’s written two best selling books that are now hit movies that 99% of audiences and critics love so I’m sure he’ll take your criticism to heart as he’s cashing all his checks.

It’s sad that Weir is such a terrible prose writer. Undeniable raw narrative talent, but a tin ear and no eye for the subtleties of theme and psychology that make fiction superior to film. I couldn’t make it through The Martian because it read like a screenplay.
Anish Moonka@AnishA_Moonka

Andy Weir wrote a novel nobody wanted, posted it on his blog for free, then sold it on Kindle for 99 cents. It sold 35,000 copies in a month. This weekend, the movie based on his third book opened at $141 million worldwide. Weir was a software engineer who started posting The Martian chapter by chapter on his website in 2009. Readers asked him to put it on Kindle. Within days of it hitting the bestseller list, he had a literary agent, a publishing deal, and Fox bought the film rights. The Martian cost $108 million to make and grossed $630 million. Drew Goddard wrote that screenplay. He wrote this one too. Project Hail Mary cost nearly double at $200 million. And the studio behind it isn’t Fox. It’s Amazon MGM, which exists because Amazon wrote an $8.45 billion check to buy MGM in 2021. Four years and several expensive flops later, this is the first time that bet has looked smart. Amazon MGM’s 2026 started ugly. A Melania documentary earned $16 million on a $40 million budget. Crime 101 managed $65 million worldwide against $90 million in production costs. Then Hail Mary opened to $80.5 million domestic, the second-largest non-franchise debut in a decade, behind only Oppenheimer’s $82.4 million. Here’s what makes Amazon’s math viable: 200 million people pay for Amazon Prime, mostly for shipping. Prime Video is included. Every movie they put in theaters is a marketing campaign for a streaming service their customers already have. Their distribution chief said it in 2024: if they cover marketing costs theatrically, the movie pays for itself again on streaming. Traditional studios need a film to gross 2.5x its budget. Amazon just needs to cover the ad spend. The film earned a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore (an audience exit poll that predicts how long a movie keeps selling tickets). If it tracks anything like The Martian, which had a similar audience profile and word of mouth, it could push past $600 million globally. Same screenwriter adapting both books, for a studio that didn’t exist when the first one came out.

I’ve been wanting to write this for a while because, more often than not, I find myself doomscrolling, screaming “NOT ALL WOMEN!” It seems like most of the women represented in media are, for lack of a better word, insane. So this is for you—the woman reading this who has been quietly holding it together while the world loses its collective mind. (link below)

@NACHOS2D_ What’s also happening is that humans get better at detecting AI and they know it’s fake. The biggest movie in the country this weekend is impressing people because one of the main characters is a puppet.

People still call AI bad. Sure, it still has flaws, but think about it: a year ago, this simply wasn’t possible, no matter how many times you tried. Now, with a single well-crafted prompt, you can already achieve impressive results. You need to understand that, whether we like it or not, our jobs will be heavily impacted and many even replaced by artificial intelligence.

@DiscussingFilm 95%? Honestly, that feels way overrated. The story and characters were pretty thin, and it mostly just leans on Gosling’s star power… people need to chill with the hype.

The NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, BBC, CBS 60 Minutes, etc. all make it sound like the war against the Islamic regime of Iran is floundering, at best, or is a failure, at worst. This is so wrong that I'm gobsmacked that the media has misled so many people. Here's the facts: As of this morning, U.S. and Israel have completely decapitated the Islamic regime (see image below). Its navy sits on the bottom of the sea with over a 100 ships sunk. It is no longer able to fire more than 1-2 ballistic missiles per day, and soon it will be zero. The Basijii thugs who slaughtered 1000s of innocent Iranians two months ago are themselves being wiped out and are running away at the faintest sound of a drone (these are hilarious videos). Islamic regime foreign diplomats are requesting asylum in mutiple countries. There are reports of regime troops refusing to show up for duty in Iran. The war is succeeding in the goals of its phases. It will ultimately remove the greatest source of global terrorism and an imminent nuclear threat to all Western countries, including the U.S. and Israel. What comes next? Hopefully something better. The future is never 100% certain. But the Allies had no idea in WW2 what would come next after the surrender of the Nazis and Imperial Japan, and today these countries are some of the closest allies of the U.S. There are significant signs from the Shah and Iranians themselves that they could do the same. Let us hope, but whatever happens, the elimination of the 47-year holy war against the West is a good thing. And just about anything is better than a nuclear-armed religious regime that explicitly seeks an apocalypse with the U.S. and Israel.

When I was in law school, we learned about something called “the one-way ratchet theory of rights.”  This legalistic abomination, pushed by Thurgood Marshall among others, contended that once a governmental entity created a new “right,” it could not later decide to take that “right” away.  It now appears federal district courts are putting the one-way ratchet theory to a new use: if a Democrat administration expands the government, a Republican administration cannot later undo the expansion, even if it uses the same procedural mechanisms.  Government can never shrink; it can only grow.  As with all of The Left’s “legal” theories, The Left always wins.

Neil Oliver maintains that the alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump was likely a staged event intended to portray Trump as a heroic figure—suggesting that the event's theatrical elements raise doubts about its legitimacy. "I'm much more inclined to see what we were shown and told as a choreographed stunt that was designed to, and absolutely did, make Donald Trump... look heroic in the face of mortal danger." "I can't be sure, but when I look at what we were told... I ain't buying it." Credit: @thecoastguy
