15M will get it done and is fair , plus Yandle is an idiot Leo is a two way 1C with much better defensive stats and is a year younger than Cutter. If Leo doesn’t get injured he’d put up 90-100 points , that is why he got that 18M offer-sheet, much more value. Yes, 18M now is very high but in 2-3 years if Leo even comes close to his potential will look a lot better that deal.

@AllMightyHockey Leo's value is much more than 10.5 million now, the market went up due to the rising cap. No way Leo was not getting at least 14-15M. Don't blame him for signing that offer-sheet. He is overpaid "Now" by maybe 3 or 4 million but I expect that to even out in a few years.

Friedman says the Ducks offered Leo 8x$10.5M last offseason (around when they signed LaCombe). The agents say that the Ducks were very persistent with trying to sign Leo, but they (the agents) had no intention of signing that early with where they saw the market going.

I think this coming out will help the relationship between Leo and Verbeek. The agents admitted they wanted to wait, and were smart since the market has changed due to the rising cap. Can't blame Leo for signing that offer-sheet. Especially because of all that front-loaded money. He has one more chance to prove his loyalty if he signs a very team friendly deal after this one. which I think he will. But regardless, a lot of pressure on him next year to perform.

Leo’s agents said the Ducks aggressively tried to sign him at the start of the season. They tabled it until the end of the season. 7-8 teams were interested and Philly’s OS surprised Leo with all the upfront 💰. #FlyTogether

@JFreshHockey @25greenking He was also pacing for over 100 points before he had that freak injury. You saw the potential. Think he would have ended up between 90-100 points if he did not have that injury and then surgery .

All the talk about "how can Leo Carlsson justify the cap hit" he basically can't. he was intentionally overpaid for tactical reasons. he's not going to be the best player in the NHL, which is what he'd have to be for 17% of the cap to be "reasonable."

He will pay more for Gauthier, then Sennecke, then whoever comes next and so on...

@Spud_Almighty @AnaheimDucks I don't think people realize how much the cap is going up. Top contracts are gonna be well over 20M in the next couple of years.

@Spud_Almighty @ZachCav You do realize he had multiple offer-sheets? One of the other ones was as high as 17.5M, Why would he settle for like 11M-12M that Verbeek was offering? His camp gave Verbeek a chance to meet in the middle, he said no. THIS is on Verbeek!

Ducks got to where they did last season because of Leo and Cutter. so I am fine with this. Jettison one or two of the Kreider, Killorn, and Vatrano contracts, and all of a sudden have cap to work with. Plus it's going up like 10 million next year, and nearly close to 20M in two years. Just in time for Beckett's raise.

Now with that being said he and cutter will be responsible for 30% of the team's cap hit alone and if they underperform, the teammates will not be happy with them considering they are making less bc of those 2

@Buccigross Yeah, people are looking at the cap hit now. I'm looking it 3 years down the road, especially when the cap will be going up by a lot. Even if he hits close to his potential, it will be a fair deal 3 or 4 years from now. A lot of new contracts will be way over 20M soon.

I get that Anaheim is on very late at night. And many people probably haven't watched many of his games. But Leo Carlsson has 100 point potential. He'll be in the Hall of Fame in 2046. Save this post, Napoleon. 🤜🏼

@MMars1978 @JFreshHockey Yeah but they could have done it for 9.5 -10 last year….so really 8 mil over payment because they wanted to nickel and dime him. Leagues changed, some GM’s haven’t and will pay for it (my teams GM is the prime example)

my personal favourite part of the Leo Carlsson offer sheet saga was the one guy who told me he'd rather have Dominik Bokk + Nikita Alexandrov + Jake Neighbours + Zachary Bolduc than Carlsson
