🕊️ Today we honor and remember Sergeant Cory Slifko at the National Law Enforcement Memorial Service. Sergeant Cory Slifko served with honor and distinction for 20 years with the @SouthStPaulPD Police Department. A dedicated husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Cory was a driven officer who rose through the ranks, living by the motto “Service Before Self.” He was the kind of cop who excelled in every role, loved his community, and was deeply respected by all who knew him. Behind the badge, Cory carried the invisible wounds of the job — multiple work-related injuries that led to chronic pain and surgeries, along with duty-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. On November 5, 2019, he died by suicide as a result of these cumulative injuries. His loss left behind his loving wife Katie and their two young children. Cory’s story has become a powerful call for greater awareness, mental health support, and expanded benefits for law enforcement officers and their families. Thanks in part to his legacy, important legislation has passed to ensure that officers who suffer the hidden toll of this profession are properly supported. We will never forget Sergeant Slifko’s sacrifice. His service, courage, and commitment to protecting and serving will always be remembered. Never Forgotten. #HonorTheFallen #FOPStrong 🇺🇸 #MNFOP #EndTheStigma #PTSDAwareness #ServiceBeforeSelf #SouthStPaulPD

🚔 Minnesota FOP Proudly Honors Our Own 🚔 We are incredibly proud of Matt Hagen and every Minnesota law enforcement member who volunteers each year to make the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service possible. From setup to execution on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, Minnesotans continue to lead the charge in honoring our fallen heroes with dignity, precision, and heart. Matt’s leadership as Chairman of the National Memorial Committee reflects the very best of Minnesota law enforcement — dedication, service, and brotherhood/sisterhood that never wavers. Thank you, Matt. Thank you to all our Minnesota volunteers. Minnesota doesn’t just show up — we lead. 💙 #MinnesotaFOP #NationalPoliceWeek #HonorTheFallen #BackTheBlue #FOPStrong

“What does it mean to be here preparing for the service?” For Matt Hagen, Chairman of the National Memorial Committee, this work has been deeply personal for more than two decades. His first Police Week was in 2004, when he came simply to observe. Over the years, that experience grew into a commitment to serve the survivors and fellow officers who return each year to honor the fallen. Seeing what this week means to those families, and how much they cherish every detail, is what makes the work so meaningful. This is why the Memorial Committee does what it does: to ensure every fallen officer is remembered and every surviving family knows they are not alone. 💙 #NationalPoliceWeek #MemorialCommittee #HonorTheFallen #NeverForget #PoliceWeek #FOP Credit: Chet Effler (video), National Fraternal Order of Police Used for informational purposes

With Police Week upon us, we honor the fallen and reflect on the daily dangers our brothers and sisters in blue face. Thank you to FOP Lake Minnetonka Lodge 6 for highlighting this powerful bodycam footage from the Richfield Police Department. @RichfieldPD 🔗 youtu.be/mx332EjSnag This incident is a sobering reminder of why tactical EMS training, life-saving tools like tourniquets, rapid response, and strong dispatch support are non-negotiable. We applaud the Richfield Police Department for their transparency and leadership in releasing the footage. To all Minnesota law enforcement officers — we see you, we support you, and we’ve got your six. #FOPstrong #BackTheBlue #PoliceWeek #ThinBlueLine #MinnesotaFOP #RichfieldPolice 🇺🇸

The bodycam video was officially released by the @RichfieldPD on May 11, 2026. youtu.be/mx332EjSnag This footage powerfully highlights: - The constant, unpredictable dangers police officers face every single day — even on a routine car prowler call. - The critical need for rigorous **tactical EMS training** and immediate access to life-saving equipment like tourniquets (Sgt. Mario Leon’s hand wound was quickly controlled thanks to one). - The quick thinking of **Sgt. Kristian Schultz**, who returned fire in defense of his partner, called out “Shots fired! Officer down,” and promptly applied the tourniquet to Sgt. Leon while requesting medics. **Shoutout to the additional responding officers who arrived quickly** — their rapid support and professionalism helped secure the scene and ensure aid was provided without delay. **Hats off to the police dispatchers** who handled this call with calm professionalism and precision, just as they do every single day — coordinating resources and keeping everyone informed under pressure. Their vital role often goes unseen but is absolutely critical. Strong leadership and transparency from the Richfield Police Department for promptly releasing the full bodycam footage. The Fraternal Order of Police Lake Minnetonka Lodge 6 commends the officers involved. #FOPstrong #BackTheBlue #ThinBlueLine #PoliceStrong #TacticalEMS #DispatchersMatter #RichfieldPolice 🇺🇸

🕊️ National Police Week 2026 | Honoring the Fallen at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service This week, as law enforcement officers, families, and supporters gather in Washington, D.C., for National Police Week and the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service, we pause to remember every hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Every name etched on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial matters. Every life lost protecting our communities leaves a void that can never be filled. But this year, three fallen officers carry special meaning for the State of Minnesota. Detention Deputy Richard Erhardt “Rich” Legler @AnokaCoSheriff Office On the early morning of August 9, 1986, 38-year-old Deputy Legler (a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran with three years on the job) was driving to work at the Anoka County Jail alongside a fellow deputy. On Highway 10 west of Clear Lake, a vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire in a targeted ambush. A rifle round struck Deputy Legler in the left arm behind his uniform patch, piercing his lung. He fought to pull the vehicle over but succumbed to his injuries. The suspect later took his own life. Deputy Legler left behind a wife and family who still feel his absence today. Police Officer Felicia Dee Reilly St. Paul Police Department @sppdmn In March 2010, Officer Reilly responded to a 911 hang-up call at a residence. A suspect attacked her without warning, knocking her to the ground and kicking her repeatedly in the head. The brutal assault caused a severe traumatic brain injury that ended her career and required 15 years of courageous fight. On March 1, 2025, Officer Reilly succumbed to those line-of-duty injuries. She was the first woman in St. Paul Police Department history to die from injuries sustained in the line of duty. Her strength, service, and quiet resilience will never be forgotten. U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Christopher “Chris” Maland @USBPChiefSWB @BPUnion Minnesota Native | Born in Blue Earth A proud son of Minnesota and U.S. Air Force veteran who stood watch at the Pentagon on 9/11, Agent Maland dedicated his life to protecting our nation’s borders. On January 20, 2025, while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 91 near the Canadian border in Vermont, he was shot and killed in the line of duty. At age 44, he was the first Border Patrol agent killed in over a decade. His remains were escorted home to Minnesota and laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Minnesota will forever claim this hero as our own. These three Minnesota heroes represent the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of law enforcement in our state. We carry their stories with us this week and every day. To their families, friends, and brother and sister officers: you are not alone. Minnesota FOP stands with you. #PoliceWeek2026 #NationalPeaceOfficersMemorial #HonorTheFallen #ThinBlueLine #BackTheBlue #MinnesotaFOP #LEOMF #FOPStrong 🇺🇸 Never forget. Always remember.
