@schitzree @MR_HOUSEY @Jason87373818 @InsaneCope Of course an Austrian economic site is going to have a different opinion because of their emphasis on free market capitalism. That doesn't mean Germany was socialist. It was a hybrid model.

What’s interesting about this conversation is she was born in America but considers Hispanics “her people” since she has Mexican ancestry whereas I was born in Mexico, legally immigrated as an infant to USA (citizen for over 41 years) and I consider Americans my people regardless of skin color or ancestry. Being American is not defined by skin color or ancestry. 🇺🇸

@cappinkirksport @adamfrancisco_ See, you have to say “black Americans” to show me who you’re talking about. American means one thing, black Americans means another. Thanks for proving my point.

Who came up with the name ‘United States of America’? Not one man. It came from the people forming a nation together, and the name ‘America’ was already on the land long before this country existed. So let’s be clear: Black Americans didn’t just arrive here, we built this country under forced labor, fought in its wars, and helped shape everything it is today. Our history is tied to this land in blood, sweat, and generations. You don’t get to rewrite that or decide who is ‘worthy’ of citizenship based on your opinion. Citizenship and belonging aren’t yours to hand out. The history is already written. Let me see what you look like?

@Jason87373818 @InsaneCope Dems were for tariffs, pro-slavery, favored farmers over businesses/industrialization. Minimized federal money spent on internal improvements. And Hitler was anti-democracy and anti-socialist. Most dictators are against both of those things.(2/2)

@SairTeair @GearheadGorilla @phl43 Why’s that? People can vote however they want. If enough people in San Francisco vote for a republican, a republican will win their district. They’re not disenfranchised. Just because the candidate you vote for loses doesn’t mean your vote wasn’t counted.

@MR_HOUSEY @GearheadGorilla @phl43 unless you have a lot of small districts, this strategy inevitably leads to political disenfranchisement. there’s no functional difference between living in a gerrymandered district and not having voting rights at all.

I find the disputes over gerrymandering in the US hilarious because people on both sides are like "Oh my God, Republicans/Democrats engage in such outrageous gerrymandering", but then you look up what they've been up to in states they control and it's this kind of monstrosities.

@GearheadGorilla @phl43 It should be split in ways that make sense geographically, in my opinion. Ideally without any political party in mind I.e. color of the district. Especially should not split a town off the rest of its county etc.

@phl43 If a state has 75% republican base, 25% democratic base, and 4 districts, is gerrymandering when each district has that 75/25 split, or is it when district are drawn to create 3 red districts at a 99/1 split and one blue district at a 20/80 split?
