@aphclarkson Spot on. The EU is an expanding power with countries queuing to join and reform to meet its standards. Meanwhile Britain, 10 years after Brexit, is still negotiating to pay £1bn a year for partial access back in. That contrast says everything about the real direction of travel.

I’ve written to the Prime Minister urging him to give Labour MPs a free vote on our amendment to the King’s Speech. A UK-EU Customs Union is a vital first step in rebuilding our relationship with Europe. MPs must be free to vote for what is best for our economy and our country.

🚨 Starmer says Brexit made Britain poorer. But the GDP data tells a more awkward story. Since the Brexit vote: UK real GDP: +12.1% Germany real GDP: +6.0% Britain is not booming. Nobody serious should pretend it is. But Europe’s supposed economic engine has grown at barely half the UK’s rate. So why is Starmer’s big answer still more Europe? This wasn’t a reset.
