Courageous people of Iran rising up: Since December 28, 2025, in Iran, the people from all walks of life have been protesting and demonstrating in many large cities and small towns, demanding an end to the much-hated regime of the Mullahs that has failed them over and over again for the past 47 years. Despite heavy-handed crackdowns by the government’s riot police and militia, the brave Iranians are continuing their protest and are voicing their hatred for the current regime and their desire for freedom, justice, and regime change. Internet access and phone communications have been shut down by the government, and this is an ominous sign that the regime will intensify its brutality and crackdown in the coming days. Those of us who live in free countries in the world should become the voice of the Iranians inside Iran. We stand in solidarity with the Iranian people in their struggle and desire for freedom, justice, and a democratic government in Iran.

uOttawa has always felt like family, and I’m grateful for this piece reflecting on my journey in quantum physics. As I start a new chapter at Chapman University, I carry with me the support, memories, and collaborations that shaped our pioneering work in structured quantum waves. Excited to continue, expand, and explore new opportunities in quantum science!

Delivering the most effective cancer-killing doses requires treatments tailored to the unique biology of each tumor.
A team of researchers developed a 3D image-based computational model to evaluate how alpha and beta radiopharmaceutical therapies, specifically 225Ac-PSMA and 177Lu-PSMA, distribute within prostate tumors over time.
Using MRI-derived imaging and COMSOL Multiphysics, they simulated tumor microenvironments, examining the roles of diffusion, tumor size, and interstitial fluid dynamics in shaping dose absorption. Their analysis shows that alpha therapies consistently deliver higher absorbed doses, especially in smaller tumors, underscoring the importance of size-adapted and physics-informed treatment strategies.
These findings sharpen our ability to match the right therapy to the right tumor at the right time.

Learned from Aephraim Steinberg that Ray Laflamme passed away.
Sad news.
Here is what Aephraim wrote:
RIP Ray Laflamme, gone too soon.
Ray was a stellar scientist, the founding director of the @QuantumIQC and of @CIFAR_News 's #Quantum #Information program, but more importantly a warm & generous human who built community and helped many (particularly junior researchers).
May his memory be a blessing.

Thrilled to witness one of my idol scientists, Prof. Boltasseva, presenting at #PhotonicsNorth2025! As a Materials Scientist, her groundbreaking research has been a major inspiration for my journey into photonics and optical materials and materials for quantum photonics. Always captivated by her innovative approaches to materials in this field!

@ebi_karimi It helps a lot. Teaching optics and photonics with combination of visualization and theory, specifically if students could use all their learned knowledge in the lab themselves.

I need to show this to my students - a very nice illustration of how a 4f-system works.

A lens can perform the Fourier transform! 🔍 This is the 4F system: the first lens converts an image into its frequency components, and the second lens reconstructs it. By adding an aperture at the Fourier plane, we can filter out high frequencies. #Optics #Physics #b3d

#Metasurface fabrication not always yields perfection. Damaged/scratched samples hold invaluable insights. By analyzing these pieces, we uncover the root causes of imperfections, refine processes, and deepen our understanding of material performance. #Photonics #MaterialsScience
