A woman attempted to carry out an armed robbery at a petrol station early on Friday morning (around 4 a.m. on 1 May 2026) at a Shell petrol station on Little Coal River Road in Alum Creek, West Virginia (Lincoln/Kanawha County area). The robber was a 42-year-old woman named Rebecca Peterson from Oceana in Wyoming County. She entered the store armed with a firearm. She approached the counter, announced her intention to rob the store and fired multiple shots, hitting a wall and later a security camera in the back area. The employee was unharmed and was able to flee and call the police. Peterson then left the scene in a black SUV. West Virginia State Police responded quickly, located her vehicle shortly afterward in Kanawha County, and took her into custody without further incident. A firearm believed to be the one used was recovered. No one was injured.
