South Africa’s National Treasury has announced a temporary R3 per litre cut to the fuel levy to ease rising fuel prices linked to global tensions.
From 1 April to 5 May, the levy on petrol drops from R4.10 to R1.10, and diesel from R3.93 to R0.93, in a short-term relief measure led by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.
The move will cost the fiscus around R6 billion but is aimed at cushioning consumers, with further support measures under review.
