When my dad was in high school, his dad died.
His mom had gotten fat during her marriage and my dad watched as, after the death of his father, she lost all the weight in order to get a new husband.
45 years later, it still bothers him. It still hurts.
I had a friend who’s mom was overweight. Not by a lot, but enough that it affected her health. My friend watched as her mom went from someone reliable, to completely erratic. From one day to the next, no one knew if she’d feel well enough to be a mom that day.
Then her mental health began to decline…
My friend tried for years to help her mom eat better/work out. She never would.
To this day, she wonders why she and her siblings weren’t enough to show up and get healthy for.
In my personal experience, you CANNOT be a good mom and wife if you are overweight.
It’s not because fat=bad/gross, it’s because being overweight seems to spill over into almost every single other facet of life in damaging and insidious ways.

Labor for the homeless is actually lindy and deeply American. Cities all over the early United States had poorhouses where the indigent who could not otherwise provide for themselves would ply an honest trade.
