I want to reiterate something John said in this video. Among all the characters in the independence movement, I have never heard a bad word about Mitch Sylvestre. He is an incredible workhorse & has never participated in questionable actions. We need more like him.

The electoral lists appear to have been compromised leading to potential distrust growing among the millions of Albertans the movement must win support from by this fall. This wasn't some NDP performance piece though the police certainly offered theatrics. If the independence movement doesn't distance itself from the bad actors when they surface, the referendum will fail.
Jeffrey Rath@JeffreyRWRath

Cory you need to pick your spots. Shooting your mouth off about the entire movement being set back by something that is a pure NDP / Elections Alberta performance piece isn’t helpful. I get that you and Berta proud dude get your talking points from the premier’s office - but taking common cause with Nenshi isn’t a good look. But hey… you do you.

Trump: “We don’t need Canadian oil.” Also Trump: just approved a pipeline that could move 1 MILLION barrels/day and boost imports by 12%. Canada already exports 1.64 BILLION barrels/year to the U.S. So which is it? They don’t need it… or they can’t run without it?

CBC in a rare and unprovoked display of conscience just suplexed Carney and his "Wealth Fund Pitch" into reality! That's how bad the gaslighting has become... When your allies go: "𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗼!!!" It's only been 1 year Carney, Trudeau lied for 10 yrs, keep up! 🤣🤣🤣

I'm perfectly fine with drinking out of a cup from the sink rather than bringing in special bottled water service. We have some of the best drinking water in North America and it's safe and affordable. Calgarians elected our council to focus on safety, affordability, and infrastructure. What could be wrong with the City of Calgary replacing water meters with advanced metering technology across the city, and implementing variable or tiered water rates? Nothing is ever free, tax-payer funds are used to replace the 10+ yo meters. Yes, they will reduce human efforts to read meters and enhance billing accuracy, with greater frequency of meter reading. Some say it will also improve leak detection, yet we all know that the real leaks are the 20%-25% that the city looses due to aging infrastructure. But the real kicker is that citizens did not vote for this change & it is "mandatory" for all properties per the Water Utility Bylaw (no opt-out allowed). And this is where things can go really wrong. State provided smart meters can also be used to remotely reduce or restrict, to the point of cutting off, water services. In a low trust society, this has to be one of the most draconian socialist moves the city can make. Most home owners are used to paying flat rates for actual water consumption; but these meters enable variable rate & Tiered-Rates, like time of day billing; don't listen to the so called water restrictions, pay a fine in real time. The City has clearly stated they want to tell us how much and when we can use water, a scheme called conservation-oriented rate structures. Big families/homes pay more, and shortage surcharges during droughts/restrictions. Welcome to the new tyranny where you shall thirst and not quench. Reduce by 20% or pay fines for being a bad citizen. Albertans are clamoring for FREEDOM, and the City of Calgary says we don't need to fix our mess, you just need to drink less. @DanWMcLean

Yesterday, Council approved the Water Efficiency Plan in a 10-5 vote. At its core, this plan is about fixing and strengthening Calgary's water system. It includes major investment to reduce leaks, replace aging pipes, and improve how the system operates. That's long overdue and necessary to keep water reliable as our City continues to grow. At the same time, I was clear that any changes affecting residents need to be reasonable and not heavy-handed. I brought forward amendments and motions arising to: - Ensure voluntary measures are tried first before restrictions are used - Require clear rationale when restrictions are applied - Add regular reporting so Council can track how these powers are being used Those changes passed. I also pushed to remove the outdoor watering schedule from the bylaw and make it voluntary first with a pilot project, which did not pass. For clarity: this is not a ban on water use. The schedule is meant to spread out lawn watering across the week to reduce peak demand and avoid more severe restrictions down the road. @JeromyYYC This is the exact motion *you* moved in 2019 to ban bottled water for the 'environment.' Council fridge still packed with single-use plastic juices & snacks. Bottles are all over City Hall, just not where cameras faced you. This is minor housekeeping, not a showdown. I plan on reversing these hypocritical nuisance council directions that favoured ideology over function. You do tap water, Mayor. The rest of us want the practical option too. Bottles are reusable & recyclable. Practicality > virtue signaling.
