@Dr_JAMavedzenge You never tire to misrepresent this obiter dicta passage. Make no mistake, the correct presidential term limit is 91(2) and not 95(2)!

Regarding extending the term of office of the President of Zimbabwe, this is what the Constitutional Court has already said: “ By way of contrast, the Constitution abounds with a myriad of provisions that unquestionably constitute specific term limit provisions within the parameters of s 328. First and foremost, there is s 95(2) which expressly stipulates that the term of office of the President is 5 years and coterminous with the life of Parliament… As is self-evident, the tenure of all of the aforementioned public offices is undoubtedly subject to a specific “term-limit provision” within the meaning of s 328(1). Consequently, an amendment to any such provision, the effect of which is to extend the length of time that a person may hold or occupy the public office in question, falls squarely within the ambit of s 328(7). Therefore, by dint of the restriction imposed by s 328(7), such amendment does not apply in relation to any person who held or occupied that office, or an equivalent office, at any time before the amendment came into force and effect.” Marx Mupungu v Minister of Justice and others, pages 50-51 @daddyhope @DavidColtart

This is the argument that’s being presented by the 2030ists. It is important that you understand it. Constitutionally, the president has two terms and the term limit provision only limits itself to only those two terms. The amendment does not seek to increase the terms. It maintains the two terms but alters the duration of one of the terms. That being the case, Mnangagwa can benefit from the alteration of the duration because this is not an alteration of the term(s). Not only is the argument wrong, but it is also stupid and is regrettably inane. I won’t engage the law on this one for obvious reasons. I’ll only characterize the argument and put it in lay terms so that you understand why it is stupid and why it can only lead to a subversion. The argument is akin to saying, a soccer match has two halves. The first half of 45 minutes has now been played. Given that the home team is losing, we’ll now increase the second half to 60 minutes so that the home team gets an equalizer. Our justification is that we’ve not changed anything because the match remains with two halves and the laws require that a game must have two halves. Tangotatamura second half. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what these bottom feeders are saying. No greater imbeciles have disgraced the name and face of humanity. This, with kind respect, is certifiable buffoonery.

Presidential Election Titbits Between 1980 and 1990 the head of the executive in Zimbabwe was not directly elected. The direct election of the President was first introduced in 1990 under Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment No.7 (Act 23 of 1987) which inaugurated the Executive Presidency. Within Sadc, in Angola the President is elected indirectly in terms of the 2010 Constitution. Voters elect members of the National Assembly (Parliament), and the individual at the top of the candidate list for the political party that wins the most seats automatically becomes the President. Direct presidential elections in Angola were last held in 1992!

I have never responded to you @IsaacMakomichi but apa wakutopengawo hako and you need correction. I have always said this country is spiritual and not everyone with ambitions or hyped gets to lead it because the spirits of the land dictate who gets the position. Once one trespasses against the laws of the land, trashes the humane standard, oversteps the moral boundaries by refusing his own children access to their mother the spirits will revolt against such! Spiritually the game is over and even the women of the land can't support such a candidate. The prevailing consensus among women, and indeed within society at large, is that custody of young children predominantly resides with the mother. It is therefore unsurprising that ZANU PF has opted run with 2030 Resolution!. A leader characterized by excessive anger does not bode well for the nation's future. The manner in which an individual navigates familial responsibilities serves as an indicator of how they will govern a country.

THE AGENDA 2026 STATEMENT AGENDA 2026- A FRESH START Fellow citizens, 1. Our nation faces a pivotal moment and stands at a critical juncture. The promise of independence has not yet translated into rapid accelerated transformation, shared prosperity, dignity, and opportunity for all. Today, Zimbabwe is gripped by disputed national processes, deepening economic hardship, political uncertainty, social collapse and moral decay. Government services and support to citizens is upon partisan considerations.
