From the opening tip, it was clear something different was brewing. Every move had purpose, every touch carried danger, and every defender in front of him was on edge. This wasn’t just a hot night, this was a full takeover. He exploded for 31 points in a statement win over CLT Wolves- Decker, but the numbers don’t even tell the full story. It was the way he did it. The pace was unpredictable. One second, he’s gliding, the next, he’s exploding past defenders like they were standing still. I was crying. My parents walked on the pitch, held me. We didn’t need words, we knew. I tore my ACL. Scrimmage, a cut I made a thousand times. This time my body went one way and my knee went the other. Can’t remember the last time I shed a single tear. I don't cry, so why can’t I stop? Physical and mental toughness is my identity. Now I’m broken, can’t walk and don’t want to get out of bed. Why me, why now? Will coaches pull my offers? Will coaches recruiting me just ghost me? Phoenix showcase. North Carolina in May. Nationals in Seattle with my Michigan Hawks ECNL teammates and coaches. Summer visits and ID Camps. All gone. Parents told me not to play basketball, risking injury. Have I been overdoing it? Training and lifting too hard? I wasn’t getting enough sleep. Not enough recovery. I even tweeted, ‘Best ability is availability.’ I’m so fucking stupid. Spring break with friends. Prom. Summer. Senior year. 12 month return to play, can’t get surgery for 3 weeks? Never been this low, is this depression? Wrote this night before my surgery at rock bottom. Was going to post a thumbs up hospital pic the next day but my emotions were too raw. I had surgery on my knee, but it was my heart that was broken. That was 4 weeks ago today.
