I am extremely honoured and humbled to be selected by the Prime Minister and appointed by the Governor General to serve in the Senate of Canada. I look forward to representing my province and country and to continue building an inclusive democracy that includes everyone. #cdnpoli

Canada's newest member of the Senate is a 2SLGBTQI+ advocate and educator from St. Albert. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Saturday (Aug. 31) that Governor General Mary Simon, appointed Dr. stalbertgazette.com/local-news/st-…

@BarbLarochelle I'm not sure if your family has ever had congee, but it's a Chinese staple that is comforting and delicious.
Also, when soup gets tired, I highly recommend mashed potatoes with cheese! FWIW, when I had my wisdoms out, I was working back toward solids (pasta, dumplings) by Day 3!

Always love being able to support the @ABELATeachers , but especially enjoy the ELAC Conference. So many amazing @albertateachers in one beautiful place. #ELAC2024 #banff

@kmcbean @ABELATeachers @albertateachers It was a whirlwind and a wonderful experience. I couldn’t have asked for a more patient, level-headed, good-humoured, organized, and polished co-director. ☺️

Finally had a chance to reflect on the awesomeness of @ABELATeachers Disorderly Contexts conference- 250 outstanding ELA converging in Banff to learn from each other and develop as professionals. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible! @albertateachers #ELAC2024

@heymrsbond I listened to a GREAT podcast episode about this exact thing.
The argument: Taylor has built her empire writing music about *girlhood*—something that many Black girls/women are denied due to objectification, hypersexualization, and misogynoir tropes (calling them men, etc.)
English

@DestructoDawn I’ll never not recommend the *audiobook* of The House in the Cerulean Sea. I know this book isn’t new reading and not everyone loves it, but the audiobook specifically is excellent and charming and perfect for when you’ve got laundry and other shit to do.

@MarcusLuther6 YES. My students think of their writing abilities in terms of the exam formats they have to write. I'm trying to untangle this so they have a more transferable understanding of what it means to write analytically, creatively, etc. Writing is not a paint-by-numbers skill.
English

@deepdishlisa Lmao that’s what some of my fave online spaces use as a term to avoid shadow bans, etc. 😅
English

@deepdishlisa Last year I lurked on a thread where some women of paleness got BIG MAD when someone questioned why they felt entitled to be celebrating LNY in the first place. 😅
English

@floessendes Most of them have younger kids. They’re not thinking about the fact that there are schedules that don’t look like theirs 🙃
It’s WILD that they think teachers have control over the length/timing of breaks. If I could control anything I’d start with class sizes & resources, lmao.
English

@mig14 She’s mad bc she already booked their 2024 family holiday. Also mad that the break isn’t a full week. Also mad that school starts before Labour Day. People must think we conjure non-instructional time out of a vacuum.
English

@MandaBourassa Mom who is mad about fall break should be thankful that her kids’ teachers aren’t on strike
English

@cmcalgary Terrible take. Equating circumcision with genital mutilation and equating genital mutilation with gender-affirming surgeries (😳) is just a chain of false equivalencies. If what you want to do is advocate for consent and bodily autonomy and human rights, this isn’t how you do it.
English

@floessendes I’ll never not be shook about it!! I would NEVER. I’m 38 years old and I’ll still say, “Hi, Mme!” when I see my old French teacher at ATA things. 😅
English

@Sarah_Colero Yes. Capitalist eugenics disguised as responsive healthcare 😒
