Council members who voted against this year’s budget got seven times less discretionary and capital funding from Corey Johnson than those who voted yes. Three said on the record that was an act of retribution: nydailynews.com/news/politics/…

This is a misrepresentation. <325K families completed the school reopening survey and 2/3 of them chose remote learning. @NYCMayor assumes anyone who didn’t complete the survey wants in-person learning- but we know the survey didn’t reach many multi-lingual & low-income families.
Reema Amin@reemadamin

During his presser this morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio says more than 700,000 families, or 74%, are choosing to return to school buildings this fall. Remember, though, that this number could change since families can choose to do a fully remote schedule at any time.

Extremely disappointed to see that my favorite museum in the world, @mattressfactory, is hiring sanitation workers for $10/hour. They pride themselves on being progressive, but won’t even pay a living wage to those they will rely on to keep their museum safe during a pandemic.

Even Target is hiring at $15/hour right now. You’re paying “Visitors Associates” $13/hour. Why is the most important position to maintain public health and the safety of your staff also the lowest paid?

“Making black students feel valued goes beyond general ‘good teaching.’ It requires educators to view the success of black students as central to the success of their own teaching.” -Pirette McKamey, SF Mission High School's principal. Via @TheAtlantic theatlantic.com/education/arch…

I am extremely excited to be judging speech for the @speechanddebate national tournament today! It feels like just yesterday that I was competing in Duo in Kansas City, but it was 6 years ago. Best of luck to everyone competing! #NSDANats

People have argued for decades that $ could be spent for social development, community development, programming, services, supports, education, & you don't need to spend the $ on police. There are 1000s of reports, speeches on it. It is not a radical idea, it's a suppressed one.
