Are we patting our backs yet for being flag bearers of aviation safety? Or we need a few more instances to claim that honour!!! ❗️While European Union Aviation Safety Agency suspended & revoked VSR Ventures’ authorisation for failing to submit safety documents after the Mumbai Learjet 45 crash, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation didn’t even ask, or it appears so as ops continued without even a single grounding. ❗️❗️And without any shame or conscience, it says it has taken note of a ToI report- if Manju V (she rarely misses these ones) did not write this , the DGCA would not have ‘taken cognizance?!’ Or was clueless?! And orders an audit now post the Baramati crash killing all onboard ! ❗️No questions. ❗️No pause. ❗️VIP flights continued. ❗️And Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau? “Final report soon.” ❗️If Europe sees red flags but we see none, who exactly is protecting aviation safety here? @ManjuVTOI #AviationSafety #VSRVentures @DGCAIndia #AAIBIndia #Mumbai @EASA

The MOST consequential decisions of Baramati crash probe are being made now. Are the CVR and FDR secured, sealed, logged, and kept under an unbroken, independently verifiable chain of custody? The final report will be credible only if the black box data was protected with restricted access, documented handovers, secure storage and independent oversight from recovery to read-out. @MoCA_GoI @DGCAIndia @RamMNK

Chennai Airport terminal emergency exits were reportedly kept sealed for over two years—a risk uncomfortably reminiscent of the Uphaar Cinema tragedy, where obstructed/locked exits contributed to loss of life. Despite my formal email warning to @MoCA_GoI @DGCAIndia and other concerned authorities, the hazard appears to have persisted until corrective action was triggered later by a fire audit. This raises a serious question: why were expert warnings not acted upon until an audit compelled corrective steps? If this is accurate, it reflects a dangerous breakdown in safety governance. And one more basic question: how did this building receive Fire Department clearance in the first place?

Finally, IndiGo announces some financial compensation to its flyers stranded at airports on Dec 3,4 and 5 due to "congestion". * IndiGo to offer Rs 10,000 travel vouchers to "severely impacted" passengers, usable for 12 months. * This is over and above the existing govt compensation of Rs 5,000– Rs 10,000 for flights cancelled within 24 hours. Currently, the Indian govt offers no financial compensation for flight delays, i.e stranded passengers. * Questions: If @IndiGo6E could define "severely impacted", the Dec 3,4,5 passengers would know whether they're eligible for compensation.

India is the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world, but it flies like a single-carrier economy. IndiGo holds 65% of the sky shaping a market where one bad week becomes a national crisis. * Last week’s meltdown wasn’t unique, airlines abroad have crashed the same way. * The script is global: lean crews, high utilisation, zero slack. * But the Indian twist is brutal: passengers get no financial compensation, even for preventable chaos. ·  Ryanair 2017: too few reserve pilots → 20,000 cancellations → paid €250–400 per passenger. ·  Southwest US 2022: outdated crew scheduling + storm → 16,700 cancellations → refunds + hotels + $300 points. ·  British Airways 2017/22: IT failures → hundreds cancelled → €250–600 per passenger. * Our Passenger Charter offers humanitarian basics, a refund and maybe a sandwich, but no financial compensation, even when disruptions are preventable. * In the world’s 3rd-largest aviation market, passengers deserve more than apologies and water bottles. * If India wants a market this large to function like a real market, the government must step in  strengthen passenger rights, add financial compensation, and on its part, ease the crushing taxes on airlines so the system has room to build buffers instead of breaking Read more in the @timesofindia edit today.

I believe he held his ground and refused to adjust the FDTL deadline, which disrupted 🔵’s plans. Unfortunately, he was let down by subordinates who were unduly influenced and by a ministry that may have yielded to political funding pressures. It was only after he assumed office that pilots’ concerns began to be recognised, leading to the introduction of several reform-oriented, pro-pilot policies. It seems likely that he will now be made a scapegoat.

With all due respect, putting laws in abeyance to overcome a situation is understandable but a very dangerous precedent and must be exercised with extreme restraint. The rule of law usually contemplates penalties for non compliance, not relaxations.

Why isn’t the DGCA under investigation? 1) IndiGo couldn't have failed the passengers without DGCA's help. 2) DGCA approved a winter schedule despite knowing IndiGo couldn’t staff under Phase II FDTL. 3) Other airlines hired, IndiGo didn’t, yet DGCA let it sell more flights in winter, flights it wasn't equipped to operate. 4) IndiGo is a pvt company, it did what it did. But DGCA isn't. It's the regulator's core job to protect the interests of the passengers. The buck stops there. 5) Instead, the DGCA was complicit . This entire #IndigoDelay mess was enabled by the regulator.

Take a moment to register IndiGo’s extraordinary confidence that the Phase-2 FDTL deadline would be pushed again.  They were so sure of their bet they left behind the safety harness and sprinted off the ledge, firm in the belief that the “universe” always obliges. There are so many questions here: What “signals” convinced IndiGo another extension was practically guaranteed? Another indicator of their supreme confidence: though short of Capts they added flights to their winter schedule. How did the DGCA clear a schedule built on a visible manpower gap? And how does an airline end up cancelling every flight out of Delhi unless it was banking on a different set of outcomes? What safeguards failed to prevent over-scheduling without crew? Most importantly, why is there still no DGCA probe or penalty despite the meltdown? And at what point did passengers officially become the shock absorbers for decisions everyone saw coming months ahead?  No answers to these questions.

Fatigue isn’t PR spin. Science shows crash risk ~1.7× at 10–12h duty and ~5.6× at ≥13h; night/WOCL (02:00–05:59) is worst. Exemptions adding night sectors = ambulances at the bottom of the cliff. Some corporate-leaning media won’t say it—only glorify DGCA’s “extra ambulance”. #HospitalEmpanelment #PilotMedical #AviationSafety #Fatigue #PilotFatigue #India #SafetyMattersFoundation @MoCA_GoI @DGCAIndia @SafetyMatters6

🧵 READ THE WORDS — NOT JUST THE DATA (VT-ANB Preliminary Report) 1️⃣ Every word in the report is deliberate. When data comes straight from the recorder, it says “as per EAFR.” When it doesn’t, the source is silent — and that silence means something. Example sequence 👇 • Vr 155 kts @ 08:08:35 — as per EAFR • Liftoff 08:08:39 — as per EAFR • Max 180 kts at about 08:08:42 — (no EAFR cited) ➡️ “About” + no EAFR = data dropout. That’s the instant both AC Transfer Buses failed and air-data froze. #AI171 #VTANB #AviationSafety #ReadTheReport #HumanFactors #B787 @MoCA_GoI @DGCAIndia @NTSB @icao

BREAKING 🚨 The “CCTV image” in the #AI171 crash preliminary report doesn’t match the real Air India Boeing 787 VT-ANB. ⚠️ Missing registration ⚠️ No engine logos ⚠️ Wrong paint pattern Why are key markings missing from an official investigation photo, a CCTV image? #AirIndia #AviationSafety @MoCA_GoI @RamMNK #AAIB @DGCAIndia #InvestigationIntegrity

@MediaSumit @TOIMumbai No changes. Mumbai airport will continue to handle both domestic and international flights. Navi Mumbai too will have both domestic and international. Airlines aren't moving flights from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. The new airport will handle the growth in demand for air travel.

✈️ Every aircraft has a unique identity — its registration number. For #B787 VT-ANB, the regn was painted: ✔️ On the tail ✔️ Under the wing ✔️ Other markings on engine cowl & forward fuselage 👉 In the CCTV image from the #AI171 Preliminary Report, do you see any of these markings? They’re missing. There is a clear smudge under the left wing and tail. Who erased them, and why, still remains the question. #AI171 @MoCA_GoI #AAIB @RamMNK
