American geologists and drillers risk it all in the desert. On March 3, 1938: Dammam No. 7 gushes commercial oil. This was the birth of Saudi oil — now the world’s largest reserves. Pure American smarts and perseverance. 1938: Kuwait. Burgan field (one of the biggest ever) discovered by Kuwait Oil Co which was a 50/50 American Gulf Oil and the British. U.S. tech and expertise were key. Kyle probably doesn't know that Americans were in on the ground floor across the Peninsula. They brought the capital, engineers, rigs, and know-how when others couldn't. They built Aramco (originally California Arabian Standard Oil), pipelines, refineries. While Britain got the first strike in Iran, Americans discovered and developed the oil across Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and parts of Kuwait — the heart of Middle East energy. Oh and Libya.
