SNOW LIKELY in TAMPA! I think we're to the point where we can state that SOMEONE in the Tampa metro is likely to see snowflakes on Sunday morning, and there's a nonzero shot that Tampa sees its "snowiest" day on record IF the airport can tally 0.2 inches of snow. This is the overnight simulation from the NAM3K model. If the airport gets 0.1 inch or greater, it would be Tampa's first first mensurable snowfall since 1977. There has only ever been one other documented measurable snowfall — 0.2 inches February 13, 1899! The HRRR model, meanwhile, simulated a remote chance of a snow squall on Sunday morning. That may be a bit overly bullish, but illustrates the rarity of this event. A few ocean-effect snow showers are likely near Pinellas, Manatee, Hillsborough, Polk, Sarasota, Pasco and/or Hernando Counties, and an isolated brief moderate squall can’t be ruled out. (I guess we would call this GULF-EFFECT snow!?) This is the result of very cold air — the coldest since 2018 — passing over warmer Gulf waters and lifting up moisture. If you encounter a snow shower, turn on your low beam headlights, drive slowly, plan for brief reductions in visibility and don’t be surprised for up to a dusting on grassy surfaces.

@skupor @USOPM Would you please update the status of the gov't for Sunday, please? Lots of workers at the Smithsonians and National Gallery of Art are waiting. It will be dangerous and foolish for them to have to go in tomorrow (Sunday).

Update - just finished a meeting with the team. If the weather is consistent with what is being forecast, we expect a closure for our federal offices in the area for Monday. We are getting together throughout the weekend and will keep you updated. The official decision - this is not it - will be posted on the @USOPM website. Our goal is to call it as early as we can assuming the system develops as forecast.

@USOPM closed the gov't for Monday, but what about all the people working Sunday, particularly at museums? It will be dangerous and foolish traveling Sunday. Could you find out what OPM's plans are @WTOP and @capitalweather? Thank you.
