Before books, almost all your learning required you having to make a personal connection with a practitioner who would agree to show you (mimicry) how to do things. You’d then become the intern, doing menial tasks in return for the privilege of being afforded an opportunity for knowledge. Finally reading this. I am very sympathetic to this group. They are trying to find a meaningful, livable story in a world completely colonized by the dehumanizing machine.
