@AnthonyPHoran @normboy562 Correct franking credits introduced by keating were remove the taxing dividends twice but then Howard supercharged that by allowing a credit for tax that wasn't paid. So people were getting refunds without even paying a cent in tax.

@normboy562 Negative gearing had been around for decades before Howard & franking credits were introduced by the Hawke govt & Treasurer Paul Keating.

Just remember this: John Howard hated working class punters, he proved it time and time again, Work Choices, CGT, Negative gearing, and Franking Credits. While we were getting up early every day to earn a crust, paying our taxes he designed all these rorts for the filthy rich. 😡

@MarkBertolini3 @Lee_AnneWalker @SenKatyG You don’t pay tax on every dollar you earn. You have $18,500 tax free then a marginal rate. YOU, yes YOU are free to start a business or save and invest in shares. You chose not to because any number of reasons - probably lazy. CGT has always existed. Educate yourself.

What part of the bleeding obvious doesn’t the media understand?? #CGT As @SenKatyG repeatedly explains, Labor’s budget “removes distortions” created by John Howard in 1999 to skew wealth and make housing an investment rather than ‘roof over head’ for all. #abc730 #auspol

The 10% who are whinging about the changes to negative gearing & CGT should be ashamed of being so greedy & uncaring about Australia & its future. No longer screwing over other Aussies frightens them. We’re rivalling America with ME ME ME! #abc730 #auspol #NegativeGearing

@Lee_AnneWalker @SenKatyG They have replaced one distortion with another. Indexing CGT discount is the right move. Charging a minimum 30% rate after that indexed discount is outrageous. It is an attack on aspirational youth on lower incomes and trying to build wealth via shares or funds.

@Trbsy4 @Lee_AnneWalker @SenKatyG So why as a paye tradesmen pay tax on every dollar I earn so I can subsidise your investments, capital gain is an income otherwise you wouldn't do it. So stop expecting me and all my wage and salary earners to subsidise you.

@Lee_AnneWalker @SenKatyG People aren’t complaining about CGT or Negative Gearing on property. Are you retarded? They’re talking about CGT on businesses, shares and ETFs. Why would anyone go through the years of pain and struggle to lift a business off the ground to have the govt come steal from them?

@BilsonhBilson @SkyNewsAust I don't understand as a paye tradesmen why my earnings are taxed at the marginal rate but these so called investors believe only half of their income should be taxable, must have missed something somewhere.

It’s beginning already. The fracturing of the liberal party will continue unabated as An*us Taylor attempts to out do One Nation at being One Nation. I’ve spoken about this many times - because it is logical. The further right that the federal liberals move to compete with the populist rhetoric of One Nation in an effort to pick up a few votes - the more the liberals will continue to compromise their balance and their centre-right and moderate liberal constituents. Over the last 10 years the Liberals have seen a mass exodus of moderate MPs, including the latest in Sussan Ley. There are few moderate liberals left at federal level. That void will be filled by Teals, by Independents and even Labor - as the electorate becomes increasingly repelled by populist politics, racism, culture-war divisions and associations with the tangerine turdine. That outlier Taylor is scratching at belongs to Hanson - and has done for a while. Some liberals at the federal level are expressing concern. One says “the party’s soul is being corroded by hate” If those in the liberal party can see it, what do their constituents see? theguardian.com/australia-news…

So you believe that killing aspiration, innovation, hard work, saving, taking a risk through increasing taxes is the way to go forward to increase Australia's prosperity and wealth? We do not get there by taxing. We do not get there by taking 47% of an exit when people have forgone income to build gheir wealth and put everything on the line. We do not get there by saying to people - don't worry, provide employment, and we will then take our share on the taxes you have created and paid. People who have worked hard their whole life, to provide something for themselves should get taxed more heavily so they are more a burden later on as they have less in retirement, or give their family a leg up. News flash - Government is there to serve us, not the other way around. Work hard, you will earn your keep and live a good life. Under this, the total opposite, less government is the required cultural change required across the country.

Labor's budget was full of lies but worse Labor gave up economic growth. The real intergenerational equity question is whether we leave a richer nation for our children. We will oppose and, if necessary, repeal Labor's taxes. We will lower taxes and invest in Australia so that living standards rise again. More in @couriermail below.

The budget will come as a crushing blow for millions of hardworking Aussies. Increasing numbers of voters are rightly losing faith in this failing Labor Government, but they’re turning to One Nation, not the Coalition parties that also have a woeful record when it comes to cutting taxes and easing the cost of living for everyday Aussies. This budget should have been dedicated to easing the burden on those struggling, but it has fallen flat on its face. Only One Nation has the policies and the determination to slash the cost of living. One Nation is committed to scrapping net zero, cutting taxes, and slashing immigration. Actions that, if taken together, would have a dramatic effect.

The “crushing blow” budget just delivered more tax cuts for workers while targeting investor loopholes that have supercharged housing unaffordability. Hardworking Aussies aren’t crying over negative gearing tweaks for new landlords – they’re the ones priced out of the market by exactly that system. And let’s talk about your protest vote saviour: One Nation. The party whose big economic ideas amount to “slash everything, blame migrants, and hope tariffs fix it.” You’ve got zero governing record, a knack for internal drama, and policies that read like barstool economics.

Too on point not to share, “Aussie reply to Trump rant about NATO not being there for us. Mate. You run a country with 600,000 homeless people sleeping on the street tonight. A country where 40% of adults can't cover a $400 emergency without borrowing money. A country where insulin costs more than a car payment and people are rationing it to survive. A country where medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy. A country where women are dying in hospital car parks because doctors are too scared of abortion laws to treat a miscarriage. You lock up more of your own citizens than any nation on earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. The land of the free has 2 million people in cages, and a quarter of them haven't even been convicted of anything. They're just too poor to make bail. Your life expectancy is going backwards. You're the only developed nation where that's happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba's. Your kids do active shooter drills between maths and English while you sell the gunmaker's stock to your mates. Your minimum wage hasn't moved in 15 years. You've got teachers working 2 jobs and veterans sleeping under bridges and you just spent a trillion dollars flattening a country that didn't attack you. And you’ve got a convicted felon, adjudicating raping, paedophile protecting, porn star shagging insurrectionist running the biggest dumpster fire war campaign since the Taliban thanked you very much for losing again. And you're calling Greenland poorly run? Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody goes bankrupt there because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because their insurance said no. "NATO wasn't there when we needed them." When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn't even in NATO and we still showed up. For 20 years. And you pulled out at 2am without telling anyone and left them to deal with the mess. So maybe before you start calling other countries poorly run, have a look at your own backyard, you spray-tanned aluminium siding salesman. The only thing poorly run in this picture is your fucking mouth. Credit (borrowed from) Jim Scroggins - original author 📷 unknown”

An entire generation of highly-skilled IT specialists in Australia have been deliberately replaced by cheap, low-skilled migrants. They're doing the same to construction, transport, and the medical industry. To hell with quality and your safety. And then the government pretends that migration 'benefits Australians'. It does not. It devalues their education and places merit in the scrap heap.
