See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. — Colossians 2:8

I last met Peter Banura on December 24 at the commissioning of Hoima City Stadium where this photo was taken. Sadly, an accident has claimed his life. The world we live in is a cruel one. This is a vey sad development. RIP Peter.

Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, And for comforters, but I found none. They also gave me gall for my food And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. — Psalm 69:20-21

@Eventzon @ScottAniol You fail to get it: visualising that better world makes the Christian a better person in this temporary one. The assurance of the gift of eternal life, not earned but freely given through a dying Saviour, will influence the Christian's character.

@ScottAniol Where Christians fail in being Christians is emphasizing the spiritualizing for some pretend better world at the the expense of being better people in this world.

J.C. Ryle: "The cross is the grand peculiarity of the Christian religion. Other religions have laws and moral precepts, forms and ceremonies, rewards and punishments; but other religions cannot tell us of a dying Savior."

In His wisdom, the Lord instituted those two sacraments for the Church to remember His suffering for the sins of His people. Smuggling in "the way of the cross" on Good Friday is declaring that the Word of God is not sufficient and even not authoritative. That's rebellion. 3/

2- Another reenactment is the Lord's Supper/Table/Holy Communion. Jesus commanded it in Luke 22:19 saying it was in remembrance of Him. Remembrance of what about the Lord? Paul clarifies that through the Lord's Table, the Church remembers His death until He comes (1 Cor. 11:26).

1- Scripture prescribes how the Church should reenact Christ's suffering for sinners. In Romans 6:3-4, Paul says baptism represents dying, being buried and rising with Him. Jesus commands baptism of believers in Matthew 28:19. Every believer's baptism reenacts His suffering.

Satan is the Accuser. His work is to turn your eyes in on yourself and despair. The Spirit is the Comforter. His work is to turn your eyes to Jesus, the rest for our souls.
