@gareth_metcalfe Not so much depth but a variation in clock face is useful. Perhaps not in this activity but across the board it's good to have the exposure to the same concept in different scenarios... So essentially that's two unrelated points but yeah 👍🏻

Depth in reading clocks. What you like/dislike about this question? What you'd change? And if you use it, let me know how it goes! Really appreciate every suggestion that you have.

Also important is using non-examples for assessing understanding.

Now finished I See Reasoning for Y5 and Y6 (both out Sunday). Between them, 758 tasks (compared to 176 from I See Reasoning - UKS2). But more than that, so many new ideas and techniques that I've picked up over the last few years: garethmetcalfe.wordpress.com/2020/08/28/why…

@TomGleeson10 @MathforLove I made some and google images had a few too, but the stuff on NCETM is good as well. Have used it previously.

Theme for this week's posts: purposeful variation. Drawing attention to specific aspects of the mathematics, helping children to make new connections. Give your thoughts, share your own examples, improve my ideas... Would love to develop a discussion!

@stevie_caldwell Thanks Steve. I’ve also used Lego bricks to help with this too.

My kids didn't do too well with area of compound shapes today- does anyone have any good resources for this?

Do not underestimate how careful #variation within teaching can help develop a systematic approach from learners to conceptual understanding. #whatitaughttoday

@tealady_p I developed this to help expose the idea of going through the 'zero boundary'. The game has no start or finish, it was used to explore the concept in an engaging way.

@MarkIvesTeach I love this. Thanks for the idea- I love that 0 is its own colour. Did you find your games and number lines from somewhere or did you make them?

Base 10 cubes are a useful #resource when talking about measure. Helps to address the common misconception of why numbers get smaller as the units get larger #whatItaughttoday
