If flying from regional airports while charging dirt-cheap fares is a good, profitable business, there's nothing stopping JetBlue (or any other company) from getting into it.

@AlexSJacquez @AnnieLowrey People see through the gaslight of allowing them to keep more of their money somehow being framed as a benefit. Take a credit away, it is a tax increase, simple.

Great piece by @AnnieLowrey on the tax wars. This part is important about how we got here too — Democrats have been highly effective in designing efficient, welfare enhancing tax programs that absolutely nobody knows or cares about.

Members of both parties are egging on a nationwide tax revolt—and if the economy were to tank, the country could end up with a toxic combination of widespread joblessness and rampant inflation, @AnnieLowrey argues. theatln.tc/VsVxElnp 🎨: The Atlantic. Source: Getty.

Capitalism is a race to the worst possible service at the highest possible price. The pack us in like sardines, take away our free drinks and snacks, and make us pay extra for bringing luggage bc we want to actually wear clothes at our end destination.

@mikesimonsen And I see your chart supplied. Thanks. I'll do the justice of digging into that. Generally, the market and maker price is set on what the market will bear, on a monthly payment amount. I'll have to look at the assumptions on that study.

Here's an illustration for how lower property taxes HURT affordability. Higher property taxes HELP affordability.

@mikesimonsen Mike. Property taxes affect affordability just like the price of a home does. Please explain your thought further because as it stands it doesn’t make sense.

@mikesimonsen Not really. I get the lower down payment, but with 5% options out there, it's incredibly marginal. And no, tax payments and a mortgage payment are the same, whatever they are per month. Principal plus interest is not more expensive than a tax $. Geez n

@TheOmniZaddy @mikesimonsen Once the payment is set, assuming a 30 year mortgage, it is set (the mortgage payments don't change) except for taxes and insurance that can increase.

@tweetsbyDorian @the_transit_guy Most of that was built with the highway trust fund, ergo fuel taxes. The current subsidy is the amount government spends ( net of fuel taxes or fares) per person per mile travelled. In many states, new roads are toll roads.

@MarkWhiteIA @the_transit_guy I don’t know what the current subsidy per person number means. We’ve spent hundreds of billions building and maintaining a national network of interstates and other highways with no current intention to recoup that money. Why are we putting a different expectation on rail

@the_transit_guy For decades, gas taxes and ROI on development paid for roads and bridges until that system was broken in the late 90's. The current subsidy per per person per mile is .0009for highways, .36 for Amtrak.

Many of you would understand the world much better if you took 4-5 economics classes, or purchased a textbook and made an honest and rigorous effort to understand it. Many of you appear to think ~0 about incentives, trade-offs, constraints, or second-order effects.
