@trademarkedash Oh, do they still do this in the ROC? My kids go to school in QC and don't but I did back in the day in ON and AB, but I just kind of figured they didn't anymore.

@WhiteRosePapist @Yale_Lad @TaglesTopGuy Scapulars are usually blessed. Miraculous medals, Saint medals, crucifixion, crosses, etc. Also commonly blessed. Do you think people need to remove those when having fun or exercising too? Because that's just not how Catholics live their lives. Because it's not a thing.

@Marsilmad @BIMBOSATTVA_ It has unironically been getting pushed for more formal acceptance by academics in recent years because its gender neutral unlike the phrase “you guys”

@Utterly_Jean If they refuse the food, I just tell them to put their serving in the fridge. If they are hungry later, they can eat it.

The delivery is a little harsh, but I actually think it's reasonable. You can't force a kid to eat, but if you get into the habit of bedtime snacks the whole evening is derailed. Not to mention the food waste and increased pickiniess

My stepmom doesn't tell my nieces to eat she just tells them "ok then you're not gonna eat the rest of the night" which I don't think is something u should tell children because children need food

@___Spoon Oh we've got our own stuff. It just doesn't make it as far on the interwebs as American version. America is just bigger and Americans louder online.

I have begun to fetishise Canadians. As a culture they have all the social extravagance and positives of Americans but none of the antisocial individualistic schizo baggage

@lydiakauppi @KareBearScare I mean there is a process to officially leave, but I never bothered. I'm not Catholic and whether the church thinks I am or not is inconsequential at the end of the day.

@lamiche_depain I live in Quebec too, and am from an Irish and Italian Catholic background. Personally I left the church and didn't look back, but I feel like many if not most Catholics in Canada are culturally Catholic with varying beliefs. Dogmatic Catholics are more rare.

as a muslim in qc, i find it so fascinating. like I have more than one friend who has baptized their children they got out of wedlock, or did their sacraments even though they don't believe in god at all😭 and it's not family pressure cause no one in their family believes either

@MikeyNohMore Maybe not, but on average lots of their children died, and that was probably more devastating.

Wonder what long-term effect going through multiple of these throughout your teens, 20s, and early 30s has on the psychology of modern adults. Up until the past century outside of teen romances people almost never experienced tragic breakups unless their partners literally died.

@AliceBunnyland2 @LowryLetter I kind of took it to mean 2008, but right before the crash. I thought they were referencing the crash when they said 2008 (with the assumption they meant before the crash).

@LowryLetter What’s fucking bonkers to me is that a lot of people who were replying weren’t kids. The OP probably was, and that’s fine. Really I’m just frustrated with other millennials.

@missus_wormy Yes. But then to live out my whole youth and now into middle age having that hopeful expectation smashed continuously has been less of a treat.

@JungCreamed @HrothgalSai @RiverGipson @_CM_67_ No, but Montreal is. Both our NHL and CFL team play downtown and are metro accessible. I think it's more an American tailgating cultural thing than a being on an island thing. Which is fine, but also not going to make sense for most fans coming in for the world cup.

Part of why I am so torn between the Northeast and the Southwest is that they are total antipodes. One is wet, geriatric, overtaxed, 'heavy', dark -- the other is dry, young, low-tax, 'light', sunny. And frankly, I've got a massive pile of savings. A once-in-a-lifetime pile of cash I've worked years to build. We're on our first baby, and I know that if and when the second baby comes, we'll really be in for it. I know that inflation is gonna eat at this pile of cash. I've got the freedom to choose here. Stay in the Adirondacks, move down to the Mohawk Valley of NY, or pull up the stakes completely and go to West TX / NM / AZ (where America's future really lives). But I've got one shot. One choice. Once I make the choice, it's over, I've gone and done it. The future of my family hinges on the choice I make. There are no take-backs. I know that once baby #2 comes, we're likely to stay wherever we're at. So it's a "hot" moment in my life. Gotta make a choice. Gotta pray about it. Heart says go Southwest, to the future, to youth, to warmth -- brain says stay here, with the past, with the elderly, in freezing temps. Lord help me.
