We spend almost $900B PER Year on the defense budget, Ukraine aid is just 8% of that amount, but actually is only 5.8% as $23.5B goes to US companies to replace existing US military equipment. So we get new equipment to replace old equipment and Americans are employed to build that equipment.
You do understand how much we will have to spend if we let Russia beat Ukraine right? Like, please tell me you understand, because it’s ignorant and false comments like yours that are going to make us pay that.
Russian per day war cost estimates are between $500m and $1B which would equal total US expenditure in 76 days to 152 days, or 2.5 months to 5 months. Direct conflict with Russia though would be orders of magnitude higher. We spent an estimated $8T on Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined or about $330m per day for Iraq and $300 per day for Afghanistan….for 20 years, so a likely estimate per day against a near peer adversary could be north of 5 times that (also assuming no-one goes nuclear) and understand that GPS satellites would likely be one of the first targets, those alone come to $12B for manufacturing cost, each F22 is approx $350m, each F35 is $87m, the USS Gerald R Ford alone cost $13B, So say for arguments sake that GPS sats, 10 x F22’s, 10 x F35 and a carrier were lost, that would come out to $30.3B within potentially the first day and that’s just material costs to replace. I won’t even estimate the cost to other Satellites that debris cloud would incur.
As a comparison, an analysis estimate of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and US defense / conflict is estimated to cost the world approximately $10T.
So stop with this “We can’t afford to send waste money on Ukraine” crap, we honestly can’t afford not to.
